transmission question
I have the truck tore apart now, got a shipment in from LMC, rocker panels, cab corners and all that good stuff. The new motor sounds great but a small problem with the transmission....when I put it in gear there is a hard pull either foward or backwards depending on if it is in drive or reverse. No hesitation in going into gear...I am worried there is too much torque coming from the motor to the transmission. Would this be a tourqu converter problem or something else. Usually in my other older trucks....79 ford there is a smooth change between changing gears. What do ya'll think?

Re: transmission question
Check your U-joints and rear gears for play. This will cause a big clunk and a small jerk into gear. If you idle is too high then you will get a jolt. Never heard of a TQ being too stiff for easy engagement, maybe someone else has seen this.anybody? Also re-check the mounts.

Re: transmission question
It's definitely not too much TQ. I'd check the idle setting and U joints as suggested by the Longhorn lovers! [In no way am I implying that these two respected members share love for anything but the Longhorn!]The only other thing I can think of is a loose pinion nut. My brother's '89 C1500 did this. The bad news is that it trashed the pinion.

Re: transmission question
Yeah, that's a little high. Usually 500-600 in gear and 700-800 is about normal. Are you running a big cam or anything?
