4.1 to V8 swap???

How much work is it to swap out a 4.1 6 cyl. for a 350 V8? Mine is a 79 GMC 2wd turbo 350 auto trans truck with A/C. The V8 is the same year from a GMC Jimmy 2wd with auto and A/C.

Any trans or linkage issues? Other problems with this?

change the mounts on the frame and drop her in, the V8 will bolt to the trans and no linkage problems, mite need some different brackets for a/c compressor depending which style compressor was on the V8

Re: 4.1 to V8 swap???

sounds good stepin, I too have a 4.1 in my 73 and want to someday change to a v-8, maybe a 327, just waiting till the old wears out, I can't see changing a perfectly good engine till then. Please keep us informed of the process if and when you do it. thanks bob

Re: 4.1 to V8 swap???

Wasn't there a light duty 350 made to hook to the v6's? Just like in the 700r4's? If I'm remembering right then the transmission may not hold up to the extra ponies too long. depends on condition, how you drive, and if my memory is toast!

Re: 4.1 to V8 swap???

Get the clamshells with the V8 and move the engine stand mounts to the "8" position, it will bolt right up. Tranny should be fine for a stock v8...
