CA Smog removal

I am now the proud owner of a '75 C-10 LWB It is my first car/truck, and my project for some time to come. I intern at a machine shop, but anything farther than that is beyond me. I have officially started tearing into it now, but I really want to remove all of the smog parts on the engine, so I can swap in parts I have waiting at the shop easier. Can anyone tell me what I would need to remove all smog related parts on my 1975 Chevy with a 350 SB. Please include any little details necessary. And if you can, pictures would be great.
This forum has been so much help. Thanks guys!

Is this a CA truck?

Mine is a 74 CA truck, and it got saddled with an EGR valve. You can either block it off or replace the manifold to a non egr... You can also block off the egr port to the carb. Someone will come along that knows better than I, I'm sure.

If it's got an EGR, it would be on the passenger side of the intake manifold, about halfway down on it.

In that picture, the EGR is the ugly round thing between the plug wires and the air cleaner, and has a vacuum hose routed to the carb.

Jeg's has EGR block off's for fairly cheap

I don't know if 75's had the vapor canister yet or not, but if it did, it would be on the driver side right next to the radiator at the bottom of the engine bay. It would be a cylinder shape with about 4 or 5 vacuum and vent hoses coming from it. I'm guessing that 75 didn't have that yet though.

That's really about it though for emissions parts. Other than cats.

If i remove the egr valve would there be anything else i would need to do, besides using the block off plate, and some how blocking off where it connected to the carb?

Re: CA Smog removal

just get a small rubber plug to fit over the vacuum port. Shouldn't be hard to find one.

Or, cut a small inch or so long piece of the old hose, and thread a screw tightly into one end, and then use the other end to plug the carb. Make sure the screw fits tightly and has to be threaded into the hose, or it'll just be another vacuum leak.

You can get plugs at a hardware store for 20 cents - the different colors are for different sizes. I have blue.

And you probably do have a vacuum canister; I have one on mine. Seems to be fine though so I'm not messing with it.

That's the whole thing. Those two emissions components (EGR and canister) do almost nothing in the way of performance. I don't know why everyone wants to take them off, other than to clean up the engine bay.

Re: CA Smog removal

Thats the main reason I am removing all of these parts, to clean up the engine bay. I just made a quick fix for the EGR by using what I am guessing was a spacer from an EGR off a junk manifold at the shop, and just filling the holes with JB weld. I'm probably going to check it in a week to see if it is going to hold or not.
