Remove and Replace Sheetmetal
I am thinking of farming out the R & R of all the sheetmetal from my running 53 to my completed rolling chassis,
How many hours do you think this would be on a time and material basis. I only want the heavy parts completed, bed, cab, and the dog house left off and in the bed. For those of you that blown apart a completed project what do you think would be a good estimate. What is involved in removing the old cab with the steering column in place, or what is the easiest way to remove the column? The 5 window cab that is on the new chassis now is for mock up and will be replaced on the old chassis when finished.

No wireing, hoses, just the heavy work. I am guessing two men 12 to 16 hrs, and I think that is high estimate. New bolts for the cab, and bed, bumpers and running boards placed in the bed! What else am I missing?

Re: Remove and Replace Sheetmetal
yea its doable with 2 guys, just have the hot wrech ready to heat up any bolts so you dont bust them off, remove the hood, then front clip as a whole unit, bed off as a unit, pull off the pitman arm unbolt the steering box, remove cab bolts and then the hard part picking the cab up. hell i tore a truck down by my self within 2 days, used a cherry picker to remove the cab then rolled the chassis out from underneath it. if your not worried about the wire harness or hoses just cut them .

Re: Remove and Replace Sheetmetal
Taking the front clip and bed off with 2 guys(knowing what they are doing) could be done in 6 hours max. In my experience the cab was a *****. I would take out the steering column, i had a crane like, actual crane, not a cherry picker to help pull it off and it still sucked. If i did it again id pull off the steering column, other than that its cake. Im 18 and it took me like a week working a couple hours a day, so ya, its not hard.
