Another steering wheel question.

Just wondering what you guys have, mine is shot, I have to pull it anyway so I might as well put a new one on while I am at it. Pros/cons on various brands? I know some people hate Grant, etc. And what is the smallest diameter I should have with manual steering? I don't intend to put power steering or power brakes in, I like my manual drums just fine.

I wouldn't go any smaller if you aren't going with ps. BTW, I highly recommend ps!

I put a late model (88-95) four spoke in my 72. Like the look and feel, but I have ps..... I wouldn't think it'd be too bad witht the manual steering, tho. Bolts right in and with a Hutch approved wiring harness, the horn works too (thanks, Hutch!).......

I just got a catalog from paddock the other day and I was looking at their reproduction steering wheels but couldn't see mine. I've got a 71 GMC 2500 custom. How many different whells were available? pictures?

I put a Grant in my truck. I will admit that the installation kit and instructions left something to be desired. But I only had to make a minor adjustment to the horn contact plunger, to get it to work. I haven't had any problem with the horn working. I also don't have power steering, and will not be installing it. I was a little worried about steering wheel diameter, but have found that the 15" diameter that I went with, isn't any more difficult to steer than the 17" original was. Actually, the thicker Grant wheel feels much better than the thin original. I thought about going with a GM wheel from an '80s truck or '70s car, but had trouble finding a good one for a reasonable price. Most of them were starting to show age cracks in the covering. I only paid around $115 for the Grant, including install kit and tax. Anyway, if you stick with a 15" wheel, you should be OK. Good luck!
