Winshield Wiper ARM removal??
OK, I am stuck! How do I remove the wiper arms? Looks like there is a little pin that slides forward but that's all I can see.
Help! Ps. And that's "Windshield" not "Winshield" LOL

Re: Winshield Wiper ARM removal??
I have a tool that I bought from NAPA, that lifts the arm off of the post. It's like a pair of pliers in one respect, but they lift and separate, instead of squeeze. Geeze, sounds like a bra, but it ain't.
They'll set you back about $10, and save you from a lot of fussin' and cussin'.

Re: Winshield Wiper ARM removal??
On a 71 you can buy a wiper tool that clips over the arm to thwe head and hold the arm and tool together and wiggle it right off.
Not sure about your model but I think you have to pull the side of it out to unclip it. It's like that for some models but don't know when it started. Here is one. I got mine at Advance auto.

Re: Winshield Wiper ARM removal??
Again, not sure if they changed them in later years of you have had newer style arms installed, but on both my 68 and 69 I lift the arms as high as they will go and then pry the bottom up.
I use a heavy cloth (towel or even a leather glove) on the cowl to keep from damaging the paint and gently pry up with a claw hammer. I've even wrapped the hammer claw with a shop towel. |

Re: Winshield Wiper ARM removal??
I was a bit confused the first time I pulled mine, but with the proper location and just enough force a towel oh the hood and a pry bar in the right spot (very bottom exactly opposite wiper arm portion) it will come right off. It took a bit of force my first time (I didn't want to break anything) - and it just popped right off. |

Re: Winshield Wiper ARM removal??
I just priced these at NAPA. they were $16.... Bottom arm is plastic coated to protect paint but I think I would still use a folded rag.

Re: Winshield Wiper ARM removal??
I just went ahead and bought one about a year ago, best money I have spent. It works awesome and no worries about scratching the paint!!

Re: Winshield Wiper ARM removal??
You guys are the best. Every time I've had one of those "How do ya?" questions I've found the answer on this forum. I was afraid to exert too much force on the wiper arm. I was thinking I must be missing something here and didn't want to damage the shaft.
The truck is a work in progress. When I make some progress on restoration I'll get brace enough to post some pics. back to the wipers now and then onto replacing the rusted rocker panels...Whopee |
