69 c-10 lowered, do I need to lower sway bar?
I am in the process of rebuilding my truck and I am wondering a few things. I installed 2" drop springs in the front and I am putting a 468 bbc in as well, with the height drop and the added weight will I need to simply bolt the sway bar directly to the frame or still use the frame brackets that were already on it? Someone told me to bolt it directly, but I figured someone here might know?
I also need to know if anyone has used the motor mounts stands from performanceonline.com? I would like to use them due to the fact the truck was a small block and I dont have the bbc towers. But will they work with a 73 crossmember? They are intended for 67-72 but I figure all I might have to do is drill a couple of holes? PLEASE GIVE ME SOME INFO IF YOU CAN AND MAYBE SOME PICS !!!! Thanx Last edited by fbodywrench26; 01-18-2008 at 08:04 AM. |

Re: 69 c-10 lowered, do I need to lower sway bar?
I have also be directed to bolt my sway bar directly to the frame when I lower my suspension. My buddy lolife99 directed me to frizzle fry's thread on bolting the sway bar directly to the frame, and I haven't heard of any issues as of yet. So, I'm headed in that direction as well, mainly to save a little money on the lowered sway bar brackets. By mounting it directly to the frame, it will pull the sway bar up and out of the way from all the road hazards Missouri has to offer. Good luck with the build.

Re: 69 c-10 lowered, do I need to lower sway bar?
ECE sells a pair of brackets that raise the front stabilizer bar mounting to afford a little bit more clearance as I navigate the crappy streets of my hometown. Haven't put them on yet, but I'm proud to say I have 'em.....just ain't got around to puttin' 'em on yet....procrastinationism at it's finest.

Re: 69 c-10 lowered, do I need to lower sway bar?
If you take the stock brackets off (grinding off the rivets) you can actually mount the bushings on top of the bracket (between the bracket and frame instead of below the bracket) and achieve a profile that is about as low as the ECE brackets.
That said ground clearance is the only issue here not the operation of the swaybar, lowering makes no difference.

I have 3" drop springs and the factory 396 in mine. Never had any sway bar issues with it in the factory position...

Larry's idea is creative, but why not just mount the bushings to the frame?

I just mount mine right to the frame w/no brackets.

Re: 69 c-10 lowered, do I need to lower sway bar?
I used the ECE brackets on my truck but I also moved the sway bar forward about an inch to get the ends of the ECE sway bar away from my air bags. I didn't want my swaybar touching the bags when I was aired down, fwiw...
