Isuzu diesel in Chevy?

Hi guys. I have a friend who has about an 85 1/2 ton long bed Chevy with what he says is an Isuzu diesel in it from factory and automatic. First I have heard of.
Did GM in fact use these engines? And what is the story on it?
The truck is real straight and rust free. And RED! I think I'd like to see about buyin it from him but I want to know some pros and cons on it first. Thanks.

Re: Isuzu diesel in Chevy?

I have never heard of a factory 85 with the Isuzu diesel. In 85 the only factory diesel I'm aware of was the 6.2. One possibility is the 4500 w4's they were the same truck as the Isuzu 4500 series cab over. maybe they robed the engine out of that for the truck. Run the vin and it should tell you what the truck came with from gm.

Re: Isuzu diesel in Chevy?

The 6.2 diesel was put in these trucks which is a down sized 8.5 Detroit Diesel. The 6.5 diesel put in Chevy trucks in the 90's it is made by International. The 6.6L Duramaxx is put in the current trucks it is made by Isuzu. They did put an Isuzu diesel in the early 80s in S10s and Chevy Luvs. The Luvs were Isuzu pups btw. That was probably more information to know, but I try to help when I can.

Re: Isuzu diesel in Chevy?

i agree with abebummy26 about them making the isuzu pups and s 10s identically but it was the newer style trucks 98 -04 or so.. i never heard of anything other than a 6.2 diesel in a truck (Stock) of our genre

My buddy has an interesting 77 k10 stepside with supposedly a "factory" installed Mazda diesel 6 cyl engine.

No.

The 6.5 Diesel was designed by Detroit Diesel as an extension of the 6.2. It was built by GM.

The newest 6.5 diesel engine blocks are being cast in the same foundry that is casting International engines including the Ford Powerstroke. The only vehicles that get these newly cast 6.5 engines are Hummers made for the military by AM General. If you go buy a 6.5 crate, you will get one of these blocks but the new castings didn't come factory in any GM trucks.
