Seat belts

I'm sure many of you guys have installed seat belts in your trucks. If so do you have any tips? I'm going to put lap belts in my 60 and I assume it just a matter of taking the seat out and drilling holes through the floor. I haven't looked under the truck yet to see if there anything to stay clear of but beyond that I don't know what to be concerened with. Any thoughts??

Re: Seat belts

Yep you got it right just pull the seats and a few holes make sure you use some good thick washers or some steel to spread the pull from the bolt you dont want the bolt to pull through the floor if anything should happen you shouldnt have any problems there is plenty of space. I love that truck!!! latter...

Re: Seat belts

Just be careful to get a long seat belt......the floor is low next to the seats and that 6" it eats up become critical. I have a set of racing belts and they barely reach. I think they are a 62" set........bought them a long time ago.

Do you happen to have any pictures? Which belts did you use?

Re: Seat belts

Seat belts would have been an option on our trucks I do believe. Most of the classic part houses like LMC and Classic Parts have them, and they don't cost too much. I put a set in a few months back. No big deal at all.

Re: Seat belts

There are seat belt mounting plates that are ovals, constructed of thick steel, with a radiused lip all the way around and a blind nut welded in the center. A LOT of street rod suppliers sell them...Summit might even sell them. They aren't expensive. Get a set of those. They install under the floor (you can spot weld them to the floor, too). In case of an impact, the round shape and wide distribution of the plate will keep the floor from tearing. It's sucks to think about, but if you have to use those seat belts at 70mph, you don't want sharp edges or a small distribution area ripping through the floor.

Brad,
Thats a good point. You can't be too safe. I always use the proper mounting hardware. I get my belts and hardware from Julianos. They sell the old chrome lift-latch type belts that I like in 74" length.

Mine has factory installed seatbelts (63) but I believe they were an option. I'll look at the dealer paperwork and get back to ya.

Re: Seat belts

Why do just lap belts? It is pretty easy to put shoulder belts in these trucks. You can reach up from the bottom and place a nut and washer on the shoulder belt bolt. Here are some pics of mine. Sorry for the ugly interior. The second pic is from underneath the truck looking at the mounting plate.
