88 Chevy pickup possible fuel problem(update 01/28)

I bought this pickup as a project. It's an 88 3/4t chev 4x4 with a 350. Major problem was the tranny. That is fixed. Now I have another problem. The check engine light comes on and I get a code 44 for lean O2 sensor. It won't come on until I get on the highway up to speed. Cruising on flat ground, it seems to do fine. Start to pull a hill, and it powers out. Especially if it kicks down into 3rd. I thought it was going to quit on me at one point. But, when you top the hill easing into the gas, it will do fine again. Changed the fuel filter, that seemed to help, but no solve the problem, and I still have the light come on......Fuel Pump? Something else?
