What year did they start making the 3rd door ext cab?

Having a hard time finding a 99-00 3/4 ton, 2wd, SWB, Crew cab, so I might have to go with the third door. Was wondering what years they started making them.

I'm not 100% sure but I think 98 was the first year. My 88 and my dads 93 didn't have them.

I believe 97 was the first year. They should be fairly easy to find I believe they were mostly on 1/2tons.

nah...I had a friend with a '95 extended cab/sb and he had the 3rd door (I think).

The vortec 350 started in '96...and the body changed in '99?

Re: What year did they start making the 3rd door ext cab?

The 3rd door started in 96 and was only available on half tons. The new body style had standard 3rd door starting in 99 on half and 3/4 tons. In 01 they went to four doors standard on all model ex-cabs.

Re: What year did they start making the 3rd door ext cab?

96 was the first year, as an option. It was only available on GMC SLE and SLT trim and Chevy LS and LT, not on base SL and Cheyenne trucks. Also only on 1500s

Re: What year did they start making the 3rd door ext cab?

As stated above, 96 was first year and it was optional. I think the option cost was around $800 IIRC.

So did the deal finally go through on that crew cab for you? Or is this another one?

Re: What year did they start making the 3rd door ext cab?

"96 was the first year for the 3rd door and the vortec. I know because I bought mine in June of '96, and there was no coming down on the price because of the new "improvements" and high demand.

I believe the 3rd door option appeared in the 1996 model year.

They actually weren't very common for a while.

They became standard on the 1999 GMT800 body style trucks, the fourth door was optional.
Mid way during the 2000 model year, the four door ext cab was standard
