How much do they cost?
Where would I find a good quality piece at a good price?
Any disadvantages? (dies this weaken the frame much?)
Can they be reasonably installed on a vehicle that has the body on it?

I bought mine from CPP for $120 shipped. It's a bolt in piece, but we welded it on. I don't know of any disadvantages to it. We took the bed off to do it. It could have been done with the bed on, but having it off made it a lot easier.

Im not a fan of the bolt on notches, you do lose strength with them. Its not as bad with a coil spring truck since the weight of the truck is mainly suported before the notch. I boxed my frame and bent notch pices and welded it all up. and as a general rule you dont want the notch to be deeper than half the frame heigth. I realize the majority of people dont have the tools to do it that way but i wouldent feel all that safe with bolt in notches, especially if i used the truck to tow.

My '70 GMC shortbed frame has pieces of 3 1/2 or 4", 3/16 wall tubing cut in half and welded in. Looks pretty strong to me. I don't think I would have a problem using it that way.... I guess it would depend on how much clearance a guy needed.

there is no problem with bolt in notches most are... what i did on mine and some others are ..after i got it all bolted in and snugged real tight..i welded it all the way around..shane gave me that idea..i have done probably 7-8 since i did mine... most are on daily drivers...now even with that said, you could go in and box the notch... i dont see where it will hurt anything. but it is not needed...i have done them on leafs and trailing arm type suspensions ...

Just do it like N2TRUX has on his. 6" tube cut in half & welded in. Plate the sides & you are set...

I can melt metal and make it stick, but I wouldn't even think of doing it to my frame. My welding looks like a 5 year old on crack did it.

I also used the CPP bolt on c-notch. It was a fairly easy install. We cut the frame with a cutting wheel and and my buddy Kris welded it.

I also went with the CPP notch........Same deal for me, I used the plasma to cut the frame then bolted it in like they say to, then welded it all the way around and boxed the inside for extra strength so mine is bolted and welded.... once welded the bolts are kind of useless but they do add some strength.

I dont know how far you are planning to drop there Andy? Take a look @ my longhorn http://community.webshots.com/user/hotrodhorn Im not running any notch, & figure around 5 1/2 " of drop. This only gives about 2 1/2" tween the frame & axle(fine for cruising empty), but would need air over leaf, for added capacity hauling/towing.... crazyL

I have a set of 6 inch drop coils... not sure if I just need to try and trade for some 5 inch drop coils... or sell these and buy a set of 5 inch coils... or go with the C notch

I went with a home built one similar to N2TRUX's as well.It definitely can be done with the body on,it'll just be a bit uncomfortable is all.
I'd bet that with all you contribute to the board,you'd have no trouble finding a fellow member with welding skills in your area that'd jump at the chance to help you out with a fabbed notch.

I guess that a lot depends on how you plan to use the truck? For 1 I plan to load/tow with, I would tend to go conservative on the drop.....if its just a cruizer/toy, I like em low
