Grey vs Chrome ralleys
Its getting close to the time to make a decision about rims for the truck. I am going with rallys but I am not sure if I want to go grey with chrome rings or chrome ralley. Here are the links from summit. Truck is a 68 fleetside.

Re: Grey vs Chrome ralleys
i like the grey better myself, gives the center cap and ring a little contrast.

Re: Grey vs Chrome ralleys
I belive that i would go with the grey rallys, bought a set of chrome one's for my 91. already rusted around the valve stem and the wheels themselves, also if you don't stay up on them the center cap gets a greenish film on them.just my .02 worth.

Re: Grey vs Chrome ralleys
All chrome is nice but I like the painted rallys as it gives me the option of changing colors later on if I want. They look real nice powder coated.

Re: Grey vs Chrome ralleys
I ran chrome ralleys for years until I changed over to another style. They always made the truck stand out. I had low profile center caps with spinners. I still have those wheels.

Re: Grey vs Chrome ralleys
I would go with the chrome. I have had both and the chrome is easier to keep looking nice. The greys always seem to chip or fade.

my vote's for grey/silver ... when I see chrome steel wheels all I can think of are the old buggy style wheels.

Re: Grey vs Chrome ralleys
Since I like driving the vehicles, and driving everywhere, I would go with painted. To me the painted wheels with chrome caps (and rings) look way better than the all chrome and also have the benifit of holding up over time a lot better.

I think they look good either way but they would be grey if they were on my truck.

Re: Grey vs Chrome ralleys
I think the grey is supposed to be a powder-coat finish, according to the website/catalog. I had mine powdercoated in red. Chrome is nice, like others have said, but so's the colored rallyes. This picture was taken the day it went to the bodyshop. I may have done a little bit of photoshopping on it, too. And the picture is more of the truck, than the wheels, but you get the idea.

Re: Grey vs Chrome ralleys
I got a set of chrome ones, thinkin I'd like them, but the more I see them on other trucks, the less i like them. They don't have the muscular look they do in silver. Call me crazy.
Pluss, unless there's more than one company doing them in chrome, the chrome job they do is WAY sub par on them. I'm trading mine off today for some silver truck rallys. Last edited by Longhorn Man; 01-22-2008 at 06:57 AM. |

Re: Grey vs Chrome ralleys
Today's chrome wheels and other products do not resist rust like they once did. Main reason I run the alloys I have is no rust issue and low maintenance. With the painted rallys and stainless trim rings and caps there is no rust issue. I actually love a chrome smoothy wheel but won't buy anymore cause I just don't have the time or desire to stay after them to keep the rust off.

Re: Grey vs Chrome ralleys
I'm sure if he had 1400 to spend on rims alone, he wouldn't be looking at $50 and $98 rims.
Although, those $1400 rims are bad ass |

Re: Grey vs Chrome ralleys
I personally like the silver ones with trim rings and centers. I do not like painted ones without w/o the rings though. If I weren't going to run trims rings, I'd go with chrome. JMO.

Re: Grey vs Chrome ralleys
Considering its a simple 68 with no fancy trim/grill i would go with the painted grey, if it were a 69-72 with trim and a shiny grill than i would go with the chrome, personaly I think chrome would look out of place on your truck.

Re: Grey vs Chrome ralleys
If you run rings and caps the chrome centers won't be noticed as much. Alot like p/coat I'm not sayin' this is as good but take a wheel and paint with Rust-olem Hammered Silver. I think you'll like the results. Flows good and gives that textured look. And cheap!!!! LOL!!!

Re: Grey vs Chrome ralleys
Since I have run both, thought I would throw my $.02 in. My opinion is like koolky's in that if you have all the trim, the chrome rims look good. I went with the chrome because of the contrast with the black. But I have saved the silvers and rings should I get the urge for a different look. Haven't put the silver's on it since it was dropped last spring. Here's both types on the same truck.
