If you ever have a chance to see the movie "Alice's Restaraunt"(Arlo Guthrie) they drive one in it.(The movie follows the story in the song).
They are generally called a Flower Car.Some cities have "Professional Car Clubs" Usually consisting of Hearses,Flower cars and Ambulances.Some of their meets are quite wild and have definite theme of strange.One Article I saw discussed a girl who has a trademark handbag style of a coffin(I assume she has several).
