Key won't kill it and the needles won't move. Help?

I need some help.

The key will not kill the truck.
- I've changed the switch thinking that was the problem but it wasn't.
- I rewired one wire that I think went to the starter, I dunna know.

The temp guage stays at about 75% twoard Hot
- It did work at one time when I put the engine in it and it had a new sending unit in.

The ammeter I'm not sure ever worked even with the old voltage reg. I know the wiring is correct there.

Ideas?

it's the '68 in my sig.

It sounds to me like you have a short in the loom. I don't know how many wires are damaged but for the engine not to die it has to be getting power to the hot lead to the distributer. my guess would be track that and you will find the rest when you find it.

start at the fuse block on the firewall and trace wires, maybe you will get lucky and find it there. as for the gauge try adding a ground wire to it. that was the problem i was having on my gauge

Check your starter again, make sure the purple wire is on the "S" and the other is on the "R". If you swItched them it will cause some of the problems you described.

"R" is for "Resistor" and "S" is for "Solenoid"

I do believe you're right about the Key not killing it on this one.

There's a Green, or it may be purple, wire that I disconnected from the starter due to length and just wired it into a direct off of the battery wire but i could shake it and the truck would die.

the guages have always been a problem, from day one.
I be there's a shor there.

I really do need to replace the under hood harness... anyone got a nice one and one that isn't falling a part? LOL

The "R" wire is a direct from the sol to the coil to bypass the resistor wire on the ign, so you get a full 12v on start up, If you hooked this wire to a power source then you are direct feeding the coil and it wont turn off.

Yeah, if you've got issues with all of your gauges, that would make me suspect the ground strap from the gauges to the dash. I'd pull the bezel and check it out.

Did it come disconnected from the sensor? Sometimes times the will "stick" in a certain resistance and stay at that reading when disconnected.
