I have an 89 chev 1500 with a 4.3 Liter V6. Does anyone know anything extra I should know before I swap in a 5.0 Liter V8 for a 1990 Chev 1500?
Do i need to swap computers and or wiring harnesses? I have the 1990 complete so I have axcess to what i may need to make this swap work? Thanks Gerry |

Re: Engine swap
ECM yes definately, as for the wiring harness I have to be honest and say I don't think so. But YES the ecm. haha
And all the other normal things to check such as tranny compatability, and exhaust. Oh and I would see if your rear end gears are the same on both trucks because you might have to adjust for that so you get an accurate speedo. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Re: Engine swap
I'm sending this back to the top, with added questions. If I want to replace the 4.3 in my '96 with a 350 (aka 5.7) and I already have an AOD gearbox, will the computer that is in the body accept the replacement engine or should I just look at going to a carbureted setup and forget the computer? The problem is that there's a buncha stuff on these OBDII vehicles that the computer controls, so nixing the electronics really isn't doable.
I like my truck, but a V-8 would be nicer. Anybody ever made that trade?
