Leak from p/s gear box

I have a leak from the pitman shaft on my gearbox. I've seen a seal kit available from checkauto and was wondering how difficult it would be to r&r the seals??

Thanks,

donovan

Re: Leak from p/s gear box

when you take it apart lay all the pieces out in order and write down their order. the seal is a common one that any bearing store will have. check the wear on the shaft where the seal rides, if it is worn you will be wasting your time as a new seal will make no difference. those areas are a common wear spot. good luck and post some pic's of your rebuild.

Re: Leak from p/s gear box

If you have the steering on center you can pull the secter shaft out. After the pitman arm is removed remove the bolts holding the cover on. Tap the shaft & it will come out. Then you can remove the snap ring & the seals. They all come in the kit. There is an O-ring under the cover but if you get just the shaft seal kit it won,t be in it. You usually can use it over. you can put a bit of RTV on the outer side of it.
