TQ Converter Recommendation

Alrighty, in case you all didn't see, I picked up a used TCI 700r4 and converter this week. The converter is a 3000 stall which I think is way to high for my truck (mild 350). What range stall should I be looking at? I was thinking 2200 or 2400.

Also, if anybody knows a vendor where I can pick one up at a reasonable price, I'd appreciate it.

Re: TQ Converter Recommendation

I would try it. My buddy owns a tranny shop and told me that those converters are always lower then they are speced at.

Don't know if you would be interested. Spec rite builds a great torque converter.

Re: TQ Converter Recommendation

call TCI or the other converter companys, they have tech lines specificly for this problem.
Converters aren't always lower than rated, it all depends on the torque curve, and output, of the engine.
You'll need your engine CID, cam info, vehicle weight, lock up or non, tranny type, rear gears, cruise RPM, tire size, and specific vehicle use.

Re: TQ Converter Recommendation

Thanks Longhorn, I went to TCI's website and they have an online form you can fill out for a TQ recommendation. So I filled it out and hopefully they'll get back to me. If not, I'll give them a call.

I use a spragless Spec-Rite. It's as good if not better than the ATI MRT i ran before.

That being said the 3000 rpm stall you have should be perfect for a mild 350. It will stall at about 2400 and will not slip in normal traffic.

Thanks bigjim! That's good to hear, I was worried it might be a little too high...
