Parking brake - what are my options?

Truck originally came with a granny 4 speed and had the brake on the tail end of the transmission. I've got the pedal and cables/brackets are no problem but I haven't a clue what I need to do on the drums to hook it up. Can I drill through the backing plate and make these work or do I need new parts?

edit.. this is the passenger side so right = rear of truck

I'd be finding a pair of backing plates that already have the parking brake mechanism. That way you'd know what went where and that it was all set.

so are the plates pretty much interchangeable for the next 15 years or do I need 67-72 specific?

They all look similar, but I'd do some junkyard searching to verify before you jump in and buy anything.

Re: Parking brake - what are my options?

I might take you up on that whatnow

Looking at the plates I can't imagine theres any difference other than the hole but I'm probably short the pivot arm. I'm going to pull off the drum after my paint dries a little
