they actually made that convertible from the factory? I generally do not like convertible trucks, but a factory 78 covert is pretty cool!

No, it was made by a different company...I just thought the brochure was cool, along with all the wacky 70's options you could get to go with it.

Who would have thought the 70's would ever be cool again

Any of those rides would be righteous head turners today, but were laughed at 15 years ago

Back in the day I saw a couple of those convertibles which at the time was slick, but those square graphics on the other trucks never did anything for me then and now

Re: Desert Fox, Chevy Sport, and Sun Tiger

If it was a Desert Fox, it doesn't seem like it would be blue. The order forms on Jeff's site say you have to order a buckskin exterior and they add the stripes to that. Was it a Chevy Sport or Street Coupe maybe?

Re: Desert Fox, Chevy Sport, and Sun Tiger

I am ashamed to say this, but a buddy parted out a late 70s sport a few years back. It had been used as a work truck by his brother, but was in surprisingly good shape. IIRC, the trans blew and they swapped the motor to another truck along with some body panels.
Also, did the sport go thru around 84? I know of 2, 1 step, 1 fleet that were both 84 I think and both were black with some red striping that seemed to be factory. I tried to buy the stepper at 1 time, dude that had it was a pill head and poured 5 gals of water in the gas tank and left it sit for 2-3 years before he finally sent it to a shop to get it running again. Man, that was a pretty truck, a few scratches on the fenders but otherwise mint. This was around 96 or so.
The fleetside was owned by a buddy of mine who thouroughly went through the truck and made it very nice but later got in a bind and let it and a sweet 79 z28 go for a song without telling me.
I can't remember on the stepper, but the fleetside was loaded with all power options, he found it missing motor and trans as a theft recovery insurance deal IIRC.

Re: Desert Fox, Chevy Sport, and Sun Tiger

A few years back there was a 1980 chevy sport stepside locally . Red/Maroon . The truck was a factory bucket seat , tach , electric windows , etc truck . The truck was nice . They started racing the truck , slowly gutted it , made it faster , then started cutting the front suspension out for something lighter , and the truck ended up at the scrap yard . The same guy turned an original 1st gen real Z28 into a dirt track car back in the 80's . At the time I didnt know enough about the truck to try to save it . Frank

Re: Desert Fox, Chevy Sport, and Sun Tiger

i looked at a Chevy Sport for sale today!!!

yes it looked good----and yes----- i took a couple of pictures--- and will post tomorrow-- after a long day, i just dont have the energy now

Its for sale too -- but was $5800 and not perfect, so for an okie truck, i thought it was high. The interior looked perfect but the exterior had a couple of hickeys

Re: Desert Fox, Chevy Sport, and Sun Tiger

Ok -- pics of the Chevy Sport i saw for sale the other day in Davis, OK (in between OKC and the Texas line on I-35). The truck looked cool (not perfect, but i would still enjoy it)

The wheels and tires are kinda generic, as well, it had rust spots showing through the paint behind the rear wheels, but what i could see of the interior through the tint looked tip-top, with the original stereo and everything.

I picked up another '69 driver later that day and thought i would have a tough decision ahead of me until i circled back and saw the asking price for this (5800)

I like the sport alot but the 1980 sport looks so much like an early 90's dodge front end then again the chev came first so I guess the diodge looks like a chevy
