Ignition Timing
I was troubleshooting my truck this weekend and found the cause of my truck running horribly is due to my ignition timing being way off, it isn't even near the timing marker! The marker actually still had blue masking tape on it from when the engine was painted so i know its never been set correctly! Can anyone out there give me a crash course on adjusting it? I have a 327 with an HEI distributor. I know it has something to due with the position of the distributor, please help!

Re: Ignition Timing
HEI is not stock for the 327 so the first thing I would do is make sure the timing tab is correct. Bring no. one piston to as close as possible to top dead center by putting some sort of stop in plug hole. Mark timing o mark on damper now rotate engine 360 degrees to as close to top dead center mark damper again. top dead center is centered between your two marks. If this aligns up with o on your timing tab then you have the correct tab. now when you put a timing light on no. one you should be able to time the engine by turning the distributor. It should be around 6 to 8 degrees before tdc. You may have to disconnect the vac advance on the dist.
