frame notch

i have a frame c notch kit for my 68 sorta like this one

but its a little diferent. it is a different notch and it is a lot thicker steel.

does anyone have any info on installing these or perhaps a (how-to) link ??

Here is how my self and a buddy did it.
1) Cut it using a grinder with metal cutting wheel. Be sure its aligned accordig to instructions. The CPP kit is aligned using holes on the frame.
2) Welded it for extra strength
3) Bolt it up.

is it possibel to do with the truck put together. with all the suspention and the bed on.

With how easy it is to remove the bed, you'd be crazy to even attempt such a thing. If you do happen to do this, be sure to support the section of frame in front of and behind the axle BEFORE you cut your notch!!! If you do not, the frame will absolutely risk bending downward, and you're gonna be pissed.

I tore my truck down last night (pic below) for something super special that I'm tossing into my project. With that said ...

Take it from me: Two main bolts hold the front clip to the frame, four bolts holding the cab to the frame, and I think there were 8 small bolts (and two straps that the PO never bothered to re-install) holding the bed to the frame (via the cross rails). There are a few small bolts here and there that you'll find, and a few wires that are easily disconnected...

Bottom line: Three guys were able to remove my bed, rotate it and put it up against my wall as you see pictured below. It took less than 15 minutes from start to finish. If I were notching myself, it would have saved me several hours of tweaking my body out of shape to get under the truck and weld in uncomfortable places/bad positions.

I strongly recommend removing the bed. Just my 2¢

ok well i can take the bed off no problem, ive done that about 5 times now. but an it be done with the rest of the frame and rear suspention together.??

I've seen it done by other members here before. I would ask in the suspension forum, though, just to get a professional opinion from people who specifically deal with suspension. The specialty sub-forums are superb for that. Don't take my word for it - I can't weld worth a damn, and I have never notched a vehicle, only watched other people do it and gotten pointers from them just in case I do eventually get around to it.

It can be done, I did it on my surburban, but it's a pain though. I built 2 frames later and installed them on the bare frame. WWWWAAAAAYYYY easier!!!

I installed the same 'bolt-in' c-notch that's posted in the pics. I removed the bed to gain better access & feel it makes the job much easier. But.... it can be done w/the bed still on (most likely w/alot more swearing ).

I also welded mine after bolting it in. I did the initial install @ home w/a cut-off wheel, drill, & hand tools. Then, a few weekends later @ work I got a couple of co-workers to help lift the bed back off & welded it in. I felt it was worth it for the added sense of security when I tow my car trailer.

ok cool thanks. the kit i have is a little different. it is alot thicker steel and a little different style. i will get some pics of it soon.

It's pretty interesting looking. Honestly, I would think the diagonal line of the rail would actually increase stabilitly and kill the need to box the frame (which is arguably not necessary anyway). If it was a true criss-cross ( X ) rather than just an angle ( \ ), I think that could be pretty sweet and even stronger than the rest of the frame.
