Yes, I'm painting my Patina Truck

I'm just not sure what color. Should I just go back white or what do you think?

Re: Yes, I'm painting my Patina Truck

If it were mine I would pull the motor and paint the engine bay, pull the interior and paint the inside. Then upgrade the drive train with an EFI motor and AOD tranny and some nice new stock interior. Put it all back together and drive the heck out of it but not touch the out side at all. This truck has a great original look that you can not duplicate!

Yep, a little paint wouldn't hurt, white, red, orange or black are good choices.

Ding!Ding!Ding!Ding!Ding!!!! We have a winner! That's EXACTLY what I plan to do with my '72. Don't know what you gave for it, but that kind of natural patina on a short fleet '67 is worth $$$$$. I would not paint it, but it's your truck. Don't let anyone tell you what to do with it.........Don't paint it!!!!

I have heard from several people this Patina is worth big $$$$. Maybe I should just trade this truck for one that is already painted?

Paint it to the color that you want, its yours. I have painted with all colors of the rainbow to what I wanted, from stock to custom. In the end its what you will have to look at every day. Look in the paint forum to get ideas of what appeals to you.

Re: Yes, I'm painting my Patina Truck

The "patina" rusty look with a "shop logo" on the door is played out. Everybody with a wagon and worn out mule has a truck like that. You can only see so many lame shop logos before you stoke out, unless the shop logo is LEGIT. I love old-time ORIGINAL shop logos, I have a couple of my Dad's old shop trucks with his shop logo on the doors.

I do like VERY much a variation on the patina look that I won't divulge 'till I'm done with my scrap yard truck.

My vote is paint it.

Yeah that's what everybody on message boards say until it comes time to buy or sell them. Challenge someone to trade you a restored '67 CST for your "original" (ORIGINALLY that was shiny white) patina'd truck. You'll hear the sound of crickets chirping. If you do get tired of the nice beautiful shiny paint, just neglect it and let it sit out in the weather another 40 years and you'll have your patina back!

hmm, with wheels like that. a pearled out shiney white would be good. or a darker metallic color would pop pretty well.

Re: Yes, I'm painting my Patina Truck

BTW, for the record I do like the patina/shop truck/rat rod look, but it does not add value to your truck. Not everybody gets it, and the majority of people out there are going to look at it as a rusty old beater.

I also like it with just one color. I like BLUEso this color is awesome & exclusive to the show circuit! I try my best to be original so,so i see whats out there first & then choose. This BENTLEY blue has a nice hue...

Re: Yes, I'm painting my Patina Truck

HSF...

I'd paint it. I had the same thoughts running through my mind on my truck...what color, etc., before deciding to do a suede finish. When delivering it to the painter, I had decided to go with a glossy finish. If you change colors, you know to do the jambs, etc. You're a smart guy. But you have latitudes for variance in the interior, if you don't like the current one. GM let us order any color that they had, or special-order one, with their "suggested" interior color, but we didn't have to follow their suggestion.

Bottom line: it's your truck, treat it like you want it and make it what you want it to be. As you get older, you don't want to have any regrets....like I do about my past vehicles that got away or didn't get finished or done at all.

Re: Yes, I'm painting my Patina Truck

I mean this in a general sense not toward this truck or anyone in partcular. '' Surface rust '' is surface rust. Isn't ''patina'' considered a faded, dull look? I know some can't afford the big bucks paint. But I can't see puttin' $$$ in wheels, suspension, interior etc. And still have a '' rusty'' ride. I know theres alot of ideas and opinions. I just think if you build a ride and do the above, I'd rather see a satin, primered, flat or gloss finish. Shop and logos are cool regardless of finish. But true surface rust not IMHO.

If your going to keep the worn look it needs to be alot lower. To my eye thats where the "patina" look works.

I think it's a great idea. I'd go with a red or blue, but it would look great white too!
