ID Plate

Does anyone know if these are reproduced for the GMC trucks. I have seen them for the Chevys. Mine is MIA.

Re: ID Plate

Zack,

I shipped a '49 Chevy 1/2 ton up here to Canada a few years ago and the ID plate had a sticker applied where the original was usually located. The sticker was supplied by the DMV and it had a new Serial # than what the truck should have had because the original was lost. The ownership I recieved had the new serial# as well so sometime in the past the truck had been reregistered. Maybe you need to have a new ID issued by the DMV based on the ownership (that hopefully is in your name).

I understand the DMV process in the U.S. is very expensive, time consuming and complicated. Luckily up her in Canada I can walk into my local DMV and 10 minutes later walk away with a new ownership in my name and new plates in 10 minutes for about $20

Good luck!

Maybe in Calif it is, but a few years ago I needed to get a VIN tag from Ill DMV because mine had fell off & all it took was a State Cop coming out & varifing the VIN on the frame & filling out a couple of forms. A few weeks later the cop showed back up w/my VIN number on a plate & he rivited it to my body at NO COST ....Joe

Re: ID Plate

Thanks for the quick replies. Toomany2count, what year is your truck? Where are the frame numbers located on your truck?

Re: ID Plate

I know Jim Carter sells them specifically for GMC's for 47-52 and 53-55 GMC's. Not sure whether they have them for later models.

It was on a car I owned several years ago. If no one can answer your question you could ask over on Stovebolt....Joe

Re: ID Plate

you can get them along with the original rivets at chevyduty.com
You just have to have a local machine shop stamp the numbers on it. Give them a call.

Re: ID Plate

Not to disagree with you, but I am pretty sure Classic Parts (Chevy Duty of old) provides the exact same as everyone else for GMC trucks: 47-52 and then 53-54. Or at least that's all they have showing in their latest catalog and online listing. I am assuming Zack is looking for one for the truck in his signature: a 1956 GMC.

Thats my fault. I thought he was looking for one for the ad truck. Sorry about that.
