Now that is a way to ship tires. Simple and Easy,
I did something very similar to a fender thru UPS

I like to place old towels or t-shirts on the nice side of the wheels also before covering with the cardboard so that if the cardboard is punctured or ripped the towels or t-shirts protect the surface of the wheel also. Its a very nice way to ship complete wheel/tire packages. Just remember shipping companies/employees can still screw up a nice thing,so protect them well.
