1980 fuel systems.

I'm tring to get the fuel system back to original. It come with dual tanks. But, only the right side worked when I bought it. I purchased a new selector valve. It has 2 lines each going to the sending unit. One sending unit has 2 outlets and the other sending unit has 3 outlets. What is the extra outlet for ?. Is it a vent for the tank ? If it is a vent. Why don't they both have a vent ? Thanks for your help. 327truck.

Re: 1980 fuel systems.

327: Both tanks should have either 2 or 3 port senders but not a mixture of them. 2 port senders (one to fuel pump suction side the other vent) are used on vehicles with 2 port fuel pumps. 1 pump port being suction & the other being pressure up to carb. In 3 port senders, one line is suction up to fuel pump, one line is a return from the pump and the other is a vent. Most often dual tank vehicles use 3 port senders and pumps. Check yours over and make sure everything matches up. Someone at some point in time may have done some swaping of parts. Most likely is the tank with the 2 port sender came out of a truck with only 1 tank. jim

Little stuff left to do is mount winch, wet sand & buff out and build belly pan\running boards. Body work takes lots and LOTS of beer!!!! God, Guts and Guns made America and God, Guts and Guns will preserve it! The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose.
