72 GMC back from body shop pic's
Here is my 72 GMC Sierra 1500 that recently came back from being painted. This one is dark olive/white/dark olive
I did the bronze 72 Custom Camper last winter and have been waiting to do this one until recently. It has full power, 350/350 ( original ), factory a/c that works etc. It spent most of its life in the ozarks, in fact about 10 miles from Norwood, MO where the meet was held last spring. The original steel floor was shot from a camper and carpet but I had this wood floor bed saved back for it and I stained the new bed wood to match the Sierra side, tailgate, and door panel moldings. Other than finishing up the belt molding, some clean up/touch up on a few items I still need to replace the dash pad and find a nice rear sport bumper for it but thought everyone might like to see what I have been doing this winter. Anyone else working on winter projects? OT |

Re: 72 GMC back from body shop pic's
Wow, that thing is beautiful! Just curious, been wrestling with taking my 71 back to original paint (med green/white/med green) vs. going all one color, without getting too personal can you give me a ballpark figure on that kind of paint job?
Great work!

Beautiful truck, the wood bed was/is an excellent choice and you don't normally see the inner bedsides that straight and shinny.

Re: 72 GMC back from body shop pic's
Very Nice!!!
I love the look with the original caps on the white wheels. Do you know the color the wheels were painted? Also the white wall tires look to be a perfect replacement for the originals. Who is the mfg and what is the tire size? Thanks!! AWESOME Truck!! |

Re: 72 GMC back from body shop pic's
Thanks everyone for the compliments!
To answer a few questions, I spent about 3k on the paint and minor body work. The steel work on the rockers and one cab corner I did myself but I do not attempt the plasic work on dings etc. as i couldnt make it come out straight to save my life. I also sent the truck off completly devoid of chrome trim, door handles lamps and bezels etc. The bed was really a great find and was striaght and 99.9% rust free. I had watched it sit in a field in Graff, MO for 10 years after inquiring about it. After asking again recently the guy decided to sell it to me. I had it sandblasted and there was some plastic in it from minor dings somewhere in its life but overall pretty decent. Who said they had a dark green/white/dark green truck? I like that color of green as well as any of them and am sure yours will turn out really nice. Ive actually had my eye on one that dark green color! The wheels were originally white and the tires are 235/75/15's I'll check the brand on them, but there just generic cheapies for now. Thanks again everyone! OT |

Re: 72 GMC back from body shop pic's
Very nice work!
Is it a leaf spring rear suspension?

Re: 72 GMC back from body shop pic's
Yes it is a leaf spring suspension. I have two of these trucks and both have the leaf spring option.
I guess it was common on the GMC's. OT |

Re: 72 GMC back from body shop pic's
very very sharp!
Every now and then I have a dream that my truck is done and released from paint prison...then I wake up and realize that it's not and it isn't.

Re: 72 GMC back from body shop pic's
Great choice on the bed wood/color too. Goes very well with the dark green paint and exterior wood trim.
