Got a new truck this weekend

I went in for a couple happy hour beers and the bartender told me she had an old truck she needed to get rid of. She said it didnt run because the battery wouldnt charge and it wouldnt shift out of 4 low. I showed up slapped a battery in and it fired right up, runs pretty good but something is wrong with the t-case, it pops out of gear and wont engage in anything but 4wd. Any ideas how to fix it or would it just be easier to grab another 208 and put it in? The exhaust was done last year, motor was supposedly rebuilt, and the best part NO RUST. I think I got a pretty good deal at $1400

I can't see any rust, so it must've been a heckuva deal if you like big trucks

You owe that woman a few beers. I think that was a great deal for a solid truck.

I would just try to grab another 208. It would probably be cheaper and faster. Good score!

Re: Got a new truck this weekend

Score!!
On the t case, most likely a worn/ half missing shift fork, pretty common. 208s are cheap and easy to find, just stab another in it.
Auto or 4speed? Please tell me it is not a 1 ton!!

Hey, I have PDF files for NP 205 and NP208 transfer cases. They are not that hard to rebuild. A kit is easily found on the internet.

I am a craigslist addict I think, there are always good deals out here from people not wanting an ugly old truck any more.

its a 4 spd, it was originally a 1/2 ton but she had the axles swapped to 3/4.

gchemist- would you mind emailing them to me? thanks in advance
cochino12@yahoo.com

I'll probably just do like the others said and just grab another but it would be nice to have the info.

The mark in the pic is actually just an oil spot. After the t-case I'm going to get the interior done, wheels, and maybe a crate motor the end of the year. It runs pretty good but it's really cold blooded and sounds like there is a valve ticking (according to a friend of mine) it will be used as a daily driver for a while.

Re: Got a new truck this weekend

I was hoping no body was dumb enough to part witha 1 ton srw for that cheap.
On the 208, I still remember the first 1 I took apart- split the case and a pile of needle and part fell to the floor, luckily I jus want the input shaft from it! The next 1 went a lot better!
