Honest opinion on seats
I'm looking for honest opinions on my bucket seats options. The truck came with the grey arm chair type seats that are very comfortable. On the other hand, I picked out some racing type buckets from JCWhitney for Fathers Day that look pretty cool, but seem to be uncomfortable as Hell! Look at them both and pick which one's you would have in your ride, I can re-install the grey or install the racing buckets.
Thanks guys! |

Re: Honest opinion on seats
I'd have to lose the lazyboys for sure. You can always try to sell both sets and get some you like.

My 2¢
I say ditch the recliners..., your right the buckets are cool. Frizzle has a good point about selling them...

Re: Honest opinion on seats
The 88-98 Chev/GMC bench and 60/40 fit in these trucks very nicely and are very comfortable.

Re: Honest opinion on seats
is it a road trippin truck or a hotrod? It all come down to comfort. a comfortable truck is fun to drive. judging from the shifter, I would think more hotrod. if thats the case keep the seats on the right

Re: Honest opinion on seats
I am a conservative, purist and prefer the factory bench. Here are a few of mine. Out with the La-z-boys and race buckets and in with the factory bench with custom upholstery.

Re: Honest opinion on seats
I'd have to say I like the bench seat look the best. I've seen some with late model bench seats in them that really look cool. Myself I don't really care for either one of the buckets.
Sorry, Tim |

Re: Honest opinion on seats
Thanks for the input guys. But really, this truck is definately more a hotrod than anything. Occasional Sat or Sun trip, spinning the tires a little. I think the bench seats would take away from that just a bit. I really like the racing buckets, but they must have been made for someone 5'3" tall or something, and I'm 6'2" cause the supports dig right into my back. But other than that, they are pretty cool lookin. My wife bought them for me for Fathers Day. She asked me what I wanted and I showed her some bucket seats from JCWhitney, black with grey trim. She decided that all black would look better. Don't you just love it when your wife thinks she knows what looks better on your hotrod than you????? LOL

Re: Honest opinion on seats
Along with race buckets, come expectations. Perhaps a factory bench would come off as a sleeper and surprise some people.

Re: Honest opinion on seats
How about the '67 to '72 factory buckets and console! I think that would look great in there.

Re: Honest opinion on seats
I say get yourself a bench like factory and put back in. Buckets don't look right with that gas tank still sitting behind them.

Re: Honest opinion on seats
i don't like either, both look out of place. have you seen the buckets that come in 78-82 corvettes. I think of set of those would look stellar in these trucks and thats what i plan on putting in mine. Relatively cheap too.

Re: Honest opinion on seats
Picking between the two, I go with the racing seats. I have racing seats in my truck and I dont really like them - but they have grown on me a little bit. I wouldnt dislike them so much if they were all black like yours. I'm 6'5" 280 and they seats arent any more uncomfortable than the truck is lol! I did have to put a couple cushions in the seat so I could sit up higher. That other seat looks ridiculous to my eye. I want 99+ Silverado seats.

Re: Honest opinion on seats
If keeping the cab gas tank....bench. If you plan on a nice trim piece/cover for it or remote tank, I think some low back buckets from a mid 60's Chevelle or Impala would fit the look better. You could even use a center console from either to complete the look.

Re: Honest opinion on seats
All really good idea's guys! I haven't even considered a center console, fuel tank cover or seats out of other cars and trucks. Anyone have pics to go along with your tastes? How about idea's on how to cover the fuel tank?

Re: Honest opinion on seats
Here is what I did. I bought my truck with high black seats. They were way to tall for my liking so I cut them down and made a lower bracket. They are really comfortable too.
I believe someone makes a gas tank cover. |

Re: Honest opinion on seats
greg64:
Thanks. I like the factory bench with a little flair because it will comfortably seat three and four, when needed. Reminds me of the good old days when my brother and I would ride to high school with my buddy in his '66 Chevy C10 lwb fleet with a factory bench. If you sat on the passenger side with someone in the middle, you could duck down and honk the horn. When people would look, it appeared that the driver and the center passenger were sitting next to each other. The factory bench with some custom upholstery is my choice.
