What exhaust are you guys running?
My exhaust "system" is seriously ghetto. Some PO added a dual exhaust with square tips that sounds like an old guy farting. Plus it's rusty and has a few holes, and the gasket from the headers is shot.
I have this great new motor but I can't hear it!! So I need some ideas for an exhaust, and also how easy/difficult they are to self install - or get it done somewhere. I'm looking for a nice, throaty sound like you'd find on the original trucks, but not super loud. I'd actually kind of like it to be a sleeper and shock 'em off the block, so to speak. I'd love to hear and see what you guys have done and approximate cost, so I can start saving my pennies.

Re: What exhaust are you guys running?
Im running a set of edelbrock t.e.s headers with edelbrock y-pipe, to a 40 series delta flow muffler. 3inch inlet with dual outlet coming out before the rear tire. No cat. Its pretty loud when ya get on it. Suprisingly enough its not all that loud when you are cruising with a light foot.

Re: What exhaust are you guys running?
2.5 true duals all the way out to the rear bumper, with a crossover pipe. Dual Flowmaster 50 series Delta Flow mufflers. Hedman long tube headers. Sounds great but not too loud. I do long highway trips and they do not annoy me one bit. The exhaust not counting the headers was about $700.
When I bought the truck it had 2.25 true duals all the way out to rear bumper with turbo mufflers, but no crossover pipe. Sounded real nice too. Very quiet on the highway, but quite loud when you floored it. It didn't have the meaty sound that the current system does though. |

Re: What exhaust are you guys running?
I have a small block 400. I just replaced the stock catalytic converter and magnaflow muffler with dueled out 40 series flowmasters with turn downs.
Now I can literally feel the exhaust. Really deep. If you want a deep sound you can't go wrong with flowmaster. For your setup I would go to there website and check out a little quiter muffler because the 40s are pretty dadgum loud. Flowmasters aren't cheap though that's for sure. Good luck! |

Re: What exhaust are you guys running?
I have the Dynomax exahaust in a box, with Dynomax headers and turbo mufflers. Hooker makes an equivalent set of pipes.
The pipes fit pretty good and sound nice. They are are cheap enough I can replace them every 4-5 years when the pipes lose the fight with the wintertime salt. |

Re: What exhaust are you guys running?
you are clear across the country from me so the price will prolly be different but i had the shop make me a new crossover pipe cause i havent done anything with the motor yet so i just had to get it so i wasnt getting stoned moving it around, a straight muffler pipe a walker muffler and a single pipe that comes out the side ( stock ) and it cost me about $400 installed. the guy fabbed the pipe himself tho with a bender.
eventually when i drop in a 350 i will put in a set of headers anda couple of turbo mufflers with straight pipes right out the back and of course the obligatory chrome tips

Re: What exhaust are you guys running?
I'm running stainless longtubes (1 5/8" primaries, 3" collector) into dual 3" exhaust with flowmaster super 44 mufflers dumped before the axle. Total cost including headers was $450. Here's what she sounds like:

Re: What exhaust are you guys running?
On my 62 I'm running Hedman Elite hedders, 2 1/2" pipe and Flowmaster 40 series, tailpipes straight out of the back of truck... Sounds killer and you'll definitely be able to hear your engines with Flows...

Re: What exhaust are you guys running?
I got mine at Summit (Right around the corner in Sparks, NV) in November '05. I spent about $280 for Summit Headers (Blackjacks), Hooker Dual Exhaust (Fitted Pipes and clamps) & Summit Turbo Muffs - Loops over the rear axle and curves out behind the tire.. Took about 4 easy hours to install.
So far I like them on my 80 K10. Sounds good, runs good. Just watch the passenger side exhaust tube over the T/C crossmember. Mine got the header collector outlet and tube at about 11º off. Went with "Header Buddy's" - no leaks and allowed for the mis-alignment. - Dave SUM-G9006 - Summit branded headers (Blackjack) HOK-16521HKR - Hooker Competition Header-Back Exhaust Systems 2 1/4 SUM-630122 - Summit Performance Turbo Mufflers __________________

Re: What exhaust are you guys running?
I am actually upgrading mine also I am going from the flowmaster 40 series, true dual 2 1/2 the whole way to Borla Turbo true dual no cats on either application. A buddy of mine runs the borlas on his nexer model swb and says the performance aspect is amazing, and judging by the sound it puts out, I would expect it to be no less then that. In my oppinion its truly heavenly. Tha borla cans are enywhere from $125 to $175 depending on the configuration, and the weld and fab work im doing myself from strait lengths of tube for routing reasons. i havent chosen headers yet either.

Re: What exhaust are you guys running?
Nice I am running dual glass packs and no cats on my Blazer. Stock exhaust minus the cat on the Camaro right now. The pickup has headers to dual glass packs with turn downs no cats very loud.

Re: What exhaust are you guys running?
flowtech headers into some original cats and to two flowmasters dumped before the axle sound alright just going to cut the cats off cause it feels like they are restricting flow cause they are so old and need to be replaced.

Re: What exhaust are you guys running?
If those single chamber cherry bombs are anything like single chamber flowmasters, be prepared to be LOUD. I run those on my ls1 camaro and crap falls off my garage walls every time I start it.

Re: What exhaust are you guys running?
Ok, so I took it to a shop today to see about pricing:
They recommended a cross pipe, 2.5 inch tubes with dual magnaflows and stainless rolled tips. He will custom fit the pipes and snug them high to the cab and bed for maximum clearance, and guarantee the work for 10 years. Price for parts and labor is $650. Does that seem reasonable?

Re: What exhaust are you guys running?
Cheapest headers for the 454 that Summit had, then two 4' long sections of 3" dia pipe, ending with two of Summits cheap mufflers, 3" in and out mufflers are like $19 each. I ran those pipes under my race car for years, didnt need them when I upgraded to 3.5" pipe due to round port headers(its a Pontiac), so they went under the truck. Not much cash in it, but one pipe did need some 'massaging' with a 40oz to fit under the truck.

Re: What exhaust are you guys running?
I'm running a 2.5 inch single (oem style) exhaust with oem manifolds, no cat, and a dynomax sport turbo muffler with a stainless tip. I like duals for performance, but i like the way a single sounds better. i dont like the popping unless it's adding some power to something with some power...lol.
