Found a 50th Anniversary Edition!

I had never heard of the 50th Anniversary edition until last month when I called on a truck advertised in an Arizona paper. It just said it was a 1968 shortbox fleetside CST with factory A/C. well, that's cool enough until the guy said: "oh, its also a anniversary truck". I never got to see the truck, it was sold before I got there. A week later, I called the guy that posted the ad and asked for the # of the guy that bought it. I got a hold of him, he was in Minnesota. He had trailered it from Phoenix! I offered him a price, and he said okay. Now I had to go get the truck. Fate struck once more when the Minnesotan called and said he was going to Kansas City to get a Chevelle, and he could bring the truck here to Omaha. He delivered it last Saturday! Never saw this truck until last Sat. morning! The truck is a 50th anniv. model, with a 307 V8, powerglide, power steering, AM radio, buddy bucket seats, and 68,788 miles. From what I have been able to research, this truck is somewhat rare. I guess I saved it, cuz the Minnesotan was gonna paint it BLACK!!! This truck needs some paint and trim, and I aim to keep this truck 100% STOCK. If anyone has production numbers or any other interesting information, I really would appreciate it. I will try to post a picture, but have patience, I am computer illiterate!

Don't know about production numbers, but it is a great find. I'm glad you plan on keeping it original. Have fun with it.

If you're gonna brag, at least put some pix on here, thank you.

Thanks for not letting the Minnesotan paint it black.

Okay, sorry it took so long to post pictures. The seat apparently has been recovered, and the mini RV mirrors have been replaced, otherwise, this baby is original.

Re: Found a 50th Anniversary Edition!

Holy cra&...nice truck. Welcome to the board from sunny Kent, WA. I would be tempted to drip it and run it just like it is for a while...but if all it needs is paint...go for it. You need these seat covers though.

Looks like you have some rocker issues before you paint.

Re: Found a 50th Anniversary Edition!

Cool! I noticed yours is a custom, not a CST. I wrote to GM's Heritage Center to get as much information on these anniversary trucks, but I haven't seen anything from them yet. I'm guessing the 50th package was available on all models in 1968? Does the interior have the gold inserts in the seats, or are they history?

Re: Found a 50th Anniversary Edition!

The 50th Custom Comfort Package came with cloth seats and a material that was only used one year...it is very cool. The Custom Comfort also had the gold vinyl floor mats. CST had the gold carpet and vinyl inserts on the bench seat.

Re: Found a 50th Anniversary Edition!

Nice truck zee85 !!!! The mirrors on your truck look like the origionals that came on mine. Dos your spid say it had the mini rv mirrors? Get hooked up with stillookin and get you some seat covers and paint and you got an awesome truck !! Too tall for me I would have to lower it . But I respect the 100% stockers also !! Nice find !! Great Truck Congrats !!! Bob

Re: Found a 50th Anniversary Edition!

Thanks guys! my SPID does say mini RV mirrors, and you can still see the original holes in the doors where they were. The SPID also said something about cloth on the seats, I'll have to go to the storage garage and get a picture of it. Also, this CST has the gold floormat, and it looks original. No carpet listed. This is why I'm hoping for more insight on these trucks from the Gm Heritage Center!
