Junkyard Find
Whats up everybody,
heres what I found at the local pick-your-part today while wandering around.Ive been looking for a grille for a while. It is a 71-72 outer grille in pretty good condition, it has a few small dings in it but they can be straightened. Other than that its just dirty and need to be cleaned up & polished.( and yes that UGLY-ASS Inner grille or whatever you would want to call it is not staying there ) and heres the best part, i got the whole thing(grille and brackets for $15! he also has an spotless inner grille that im going to pick up in a few weeks heres the pic

ya I found it in the back of a 67-72 that was almost completely stripped. Evidently the previous owner of the truck wasn't too impressed with the price on new inner grilles so he clusterf#$d this one in there. Luckily he didn't damage the grille.
as of now that thing is awaiting use as a grate in the bottom of our BBQ as for the outer grille, i polished on it a little this evening with medium 1 steel wool and its looking as good as new.

For my grille what should I use to polish it? It had been painted black and i got all the paint off but it has a bunch of stains on it and I want it to look kind of chromish.

Grille stain removal
When I got my Jimmy, its grille had a lot of surface rust but no pitting. I used some rubbing compound (fine enough not ot scratch) and it worked wonders!!

it isn't rust but more like varnish or something like that. just clear splotches on it but they won't go away even with paint remover.

use steel wool
i use steel wool on most of my chrome parts. i use 00000 (super fine) wool and it will remove just bout anything (water spots, over spray, surface rust, etc), but the chrome.
try it on a small location first, to see the results..... |

WWW.STARQUESTRIMS.COM polished a nasty grille for me and it looks like chrome now. Excellent work.

I wish I could figure out what the hell that guy was thinking:confusedI talked to the guy about the inner grill and he will let me have it for $30 if i take it off myself, which isn't bad considering the grill is in about as good shape as this..
