'69 vs. '71-'72 seat

What is the difference between a '69 bench seat and a '71-'72 bench seat? I am told that a houndstooth cover for a '71-'72 will not fit on my seat.

A houndstooth would have come on a cheyenne super, which would have had a FULL FOAM (option) seat. I am not sure if that is the difference someone is talking about.
