Short Bed 3/4 Ton
I have been going by this green and white 69-71 shortbed that is sitting on the side of the road with a for sale sign on it for weeks and today I noticed it had 8 lug wheels on it.
I cant recall ever seeing a 8 lug shortbed or what I would figure as a 3/4 ton. Maybe some kind of special order or maybe not anyway new to me. Not a bad looking truck from the road , they are asking 1700 for it.

Re: Short Bed 3/4 Ton
a short bed 3/4 ton? Maybe somebody modified it. Was it a step side?

Re: Short Bed 3/4 Ton
yeah, they didn't make them that way from the factory....so someone either shortened a 3/4 ton, or put 3/4 axles under a SWB 1/2 ton.

Re: Short Bed 3/4 Ton
No not a stepside and it doesnt have any trim pieces or other pretties just a standard work type.
Could be some farmer ordered it that way or like you say changed it to suit him. Kinda hard to tell its different unless you really look , kinda cool though and if it is modified they took alot of time to even change the front end to the same. Cant tell you how many i have seen with a big rear and 1/2 ton front.

Re: Short Bed 3/4 Ton
it's only a handfull of bolts to swap out the whole front cross member.
Unless it's a COPO truclk, it wasn't a 3/4 ton SWB from the factory. Get a pic of the VIN, or better yet, the model number... then we'll know exactly what it was no question about it. |

Re: Short Bed 3/4 Ton
Before I bought my K20 (in 1977), I looked at a very nice light blue & white '72 SWB with 8-lugs. It sounded great (warmed over with a bit of a cam) but at $4500 was too steep for me. I never knew it wasn't stock... and I've often wished I would have bought it.

Re: Short Bed 3/4 Ton
Before I started my frame off on a 69 swb, it was a daily driver and had 3/4 ton axles with huge disc's in the front and drums in the rear. They are back under it now. The stopping power with and without a trailer is much better than 1/2 ton.

Re: Short Bed 3/4 Ton
doubt it was factory, dont take much to swap axels or bodys, i have sold one 72 and still have one swb 3/4, but ya better wear a mouthpiece while diving, there short and choppy riding.

Re: Short Bed 3/4 Ton
When I was a kid my dad bought 2 Swb trucks from a city auction and they were both 3/4 ton they had a few of them there so I wonder if its possible they were military or gov options. The 2 he bought where 2wd not 4wd. I just don’t see the city changing them out to 3/4 ton . I wish he still had one so we could check the vin.

Re: Short Bed 3/4 Ton
4x4 guys like to do the conversion on these and Blazers because they 8 lug diffs are alot stronger. They usually run a 14 bolt full float and a Dana 60 in the front. Its mainly for 4x4 purposes. To beef up things a bit.
