Re: any different wiper motor ideas out there
OK, we're getting closer...
Is the second picture you posted mounted in the first picture? ***EDIT*** - OK, now I see it. But the second question still stands. How close to a bolt in was this or was it a completely custom install?

Re: any different wiper motor ideas out there
Been wanting to do a transplant like this for awhile. Not just for looks though. Any info on part numbers? Is there a kit specific for our trucks? Thanks in advance for any information.

Re: any different wiper motor ideas out there
The one on my truck is from Detroit Speed and Engineering.
Unfortunately nothing they sell is cheap. But it is well made and works great! Just from reading the original question from blazer2007 that is exactly why I changed mine. http://www.detroitspeed.com/productp...ersal_prod.htm

The universal kit comes with an oversized aluminum plate that you trim to fit your firewall. The motor is bolted to that aluminum plate with countersunk bolts. A few new holes are drilled for the aluminum plate to bolt to the firewall. Inside the stock switch was (gleefully) trashed and I made a small metal plate to hold the new round switch to the metal dash. On the stock plastic instrument bezel the hole is square, so I made an aluminum plate that matches my aluminum interior panels but with a round hole for the new round knob. The wiring is very simple. Hot, ground and a weather pack connection. If you had time and one of these wiper motors It looks fairly easy to make your own. The hardest part would be finding the correct switch.

Re: any different wiper motor ideas out there
That look's like a nice up grade from the stock unit and will probably work much better than the stock unit but i really don't see how it looks any cleaner than what the stock unit did it's still a big bulky electric motor hanging off the firewall!
Now if you can mount it on the inside of the air cowl where the wiper transmission arms are then that would clean up the look of the firewall. |

Re: any different wiper motor ideas out there
From the original post, I didn’t get the impression he wanted to hide the wiper motor.
He said “looking for different wiper motors or something to make it look better besides paint.” I thought he was looking for a better looking motor. The caddy unit is a much better looking motor. If he wanted to hide the motor and for the smooth street rod look, he could go this route…..http://itsasnapwireandcable.com/wiper_kits.htm

Re: any different wiper motor ideas out there
Frank,
I wasn't trying to offend you or blazer2007 and i did read what he wrote and i was just giving my opinion and making a sugestion that's all. As i stated before it looks like a very nice up grade but i still fail to see how it looks any better than the stock unit did with or without paint as long as it's in view. Re: any different wiper motor ideas out there
Sorry if my post sounded defensive Bruce.
That wasn’t my intention. You know, I can’t really think of any truly good looking wiper motors. I think they will always look like something just stuck to the firewall. And because of their size are hard to cover up.
