Which year is the "best"?

Right now I am a proud owner of a 1975 C-10 LWB, but I bought it to clean up and turn around and sell. I have realy wanted a 67-72, but what years would any of you consider the "best" or the most desireable, or are they all the same? Just so I can look around and keep my eyes out for one.

Thanks in advance,
Jared

Re: Which year is the "best"?

I feel the last year of a series is most always the "best"... a '72 GMC/Chev truck will have disk brakes and other items which the earlier models of the series did not have... Further examples would include; 1972 MonteCarlo, 1966 Chev/GMC truck etc, etc

Re: Which year is the "best"?

well, prolly a custom deluxe or better packaged truck cause your likely to get power assist along with the standard disk brakes. also power steering. 5 lug set-up. more options available for 72 also. standard 3 seat belt set-up. however, all the years are AWESOME!!

Re: Which year is the "best"?

I say it depends on your goals.

The first two years of this style, the '67-68's are thought to be the cleanest in that they are the original design from Harry Bentley Bradley, as he and GM agreed it should look.

The next two years, the '69-70's, show the effects of GM wanting to show the trucks to be more masculine (GM's words). The more erect front fascia is the result of that idea. Some like it, some don't. The 350 was introduced to these trucks in '69.

The final two years, the '71-72's, have a "refined" grille as started in '69. The grille insert is easily swapped for billet, offering flexibility in the look you can get. Disc brakes and five-lugs were standard beginning in '71.

A/C is an option for all of these years. The '67 model is the only one that had two back window sizes. Harry Bradley says he likes the small window for the "limosine" look. The buying public preferred the large rear window, and the small one was dropped early into the second year (68).

You can look on this site and find all kinds of opinions about specific years, so you aren't going to get an unbiased opinion. We like our trucks. The more you own/build/drive it, the more you like it....because you make it what you want it to be.

Re: Which year is the "best"?

I think it all depends on what you are going to do with it, restore to original or customize and then it all depends on your own tast. If you customize you can add any option you want. If you want to keep it original then you have to consider the different options availiable for that specific year.
I currently have a 69 4x4 that is lifted with 40 inch Ground Hawgs and has been modified but I am going to restore the body to look stock with two tone paint and mouldings.
I then want to get a 67 C-10 and totally customize and then eventually get a 72 C-10 and restore to original.

Re: Which year is the "best"?

All of them are great trucks. But if you want it all...options that is...the 71 - 72 Cheyennes are the way to go. I personally like the grilles of the 71-72's the best.

Re: Which year is the "best"?

For a modified truck I really like a 67 small rear window swb step. For functionality stock I like the 72 for the above stated reasons.I like the 67-68 grille best,I'm not a big fan of the mouldings on the sides unless it's a custom or other highly optioned truck,I tend to like simple and functional.I have also almost always driven Panels or pickups with toppers or campers so i tend to use my mirrors to back and see behind me.I really like the Chevrolet small block engine because it was good enough to be in producton for so long and parts are cheap, but big blocks are great for their power.Since I like different though I am keeping the 6 in my current project.
Given an unlimited budget and ability I would probably build a 67 small window swb step with a late model or aftermarket blown aluminum small
block with a 4l60 tranny, keeping it all under the hood for a sleeper.
You asked which is best.Which one do"YOU" want?

Re: Which year is the "best"?

Depends on what your plans are for the truck

If you're selling it, you prolly want the one that has the most options & stuff, but if you're keeping it you just need to pick which one looks best to you

For me it's 67 Only whether thats swb or long & I prefer wide beds

a fully optioned 72 shortbed with a 67front clip and shaved rear markers. All the good stuff from the later style, but the looks of the early one.

Re: Which year is the "best"?

Lets look on the brite side...if this question was about a Ford or a Dodge then we would not be having this discussion. I have a loaded 70cst but I do like the 67-68 front ends. My Dad had a 72 and I really never like the egg crate look. Be that as it may be...67-72 trucks are ICONS in the making. Buy the truck that "YOU" like best and make it your truck. You won't go wrong!

Re: Which year is the "best"?

It's all about opinion because they are all great trucks. My favorite is '67 Chevy. The clean looking grill with no side markers looks best of all of them IMO. I don't care for the GMC's as much as the Chevy's but I don't hate them either. I guess my order of the 3 different groups would be 67-78, 71-72, and 69-70. With that being said, I'm focusing on painting my '69 C/10 which has become my daily driver (I have a 2000 Z71 that has been once in the last 3 weeks!). Even though I prefer the other grills a little more, my '69 is a pretty clean truck, and even though I could swap out the grill for another year model, I'm not going to.
