Lowering a Burb - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

As I am about to close a deal on a 68 Burb, I am starting to look at my options for lowering one. I am an old school, static drop guy so the whole air bag thing is a little scary to me.

What are my best options to get this thing down without cutting the floor for a serious "C" notch?
My intentions are for this to be a daily driver, with full three seat utilization. ( I have three kids) It may also see occassional towing duty hauling my dirt bikes and quads to the track. ( minimal weight- 16' open trailer)

I have looked at some of the Burbs on here and I am deeply impressed with the level of craftsmanship on the rides here.

Before someone hits me on this- I don't have pics yet!

2.5" spindles w/discs up front plus any additional drop with springs (1-3"). Out back to get low with coils go with drop springs. Depending on how low you go you may also need an adjustable panhard bar, shock relocators, and a bolt-in C-Notch (no floor cutting required). If you have leafs you can sub the coils and bar for a flip kit.

All of the mentioned items are available through Early Classic or CPP

Also be aware, as CG just pointed out in another thread, that the rear coils for Burbs/panels are heavier than for the trucks.

Porterbuilt is coming out with a c-notch kit for a Sub that should be ready in about 3 weeks. You should be able to lay it out on bags with his front and rear kit.

Thanks for the input guys- I have looked at Porterbuilts stuff. He does some amazing work but I am not going the air bag route. I am not interetsed in laying frame or even running 22"'s or anything like that. I am going more 'shop truck' or vintage Hot Rod look I think.

I am going to stay with a static drop for now and probably try to duplicate the look of Tim Christians 'Burb. Well except for the patina and lettering on the doors.

Sorry to ask a question in Crews thread but he may want to see this too. Does anybody have 5" rear drop springs installed? I'd like to see a pic and any advice.

I wish I knew how to post pics...I'm not exactly compu-savvy.
My 'burb has a 3" spindle(BellTech) and a 1.5" spring up front, witha 5" coil and 1.5" block in the rear, with a bolt in c-notch(CPP).
In the pics I have of it, it doesn't look that low, but it's running 255/60/17 front, and 285/60/17(almost 31" tall) rear.

Rob- That pic is awesome! I can't wait until I get to that stage with mine. Well maybe not the airbag thing, but lowered with some rallys on it would be very cool....

Rob-I've peeked at your build thread on your burb and your crew cab.... You do a nice job on your projects and your burb has actually be somewhat inspirational for me. You should be very proud of your trucks.
