the dreaded E word!

Can someone tell me how I can find out what emissions came on my trucks? I was told you can find out through the VIN? Is there a web site, like a cool Delco one?

Re: the dreaded E word!

Typically on your 71 there was a PCV valve, a Thermactor air control for the air cleaner, and a TCS system.

The California trucks got the air pumps in addition as I recall.

Re: the dreaded E word!

The guy that did mine argued that I needed an EGR valve. I told him that this is how I got it ('69). He said that his '71 has one so mine should. Then a new guy said he was going to check the book and said that for my year only needed a safety inspection that it didn't have any emissions stuff to check.

Long story short they can check the book and tell you.

Re: the dreaded E word!

When I saftied mine NO emissions test was needed(excempt).Just had to make sure the turn signals,Horn, lights work,no winshield glass cracks and it had seat belts.

My evap canister was there but not hooked up.
I DID have a PVC though.

That was it.Passed no prob.
Did it through Canadian Tire.

Oh ya,they do a road test and check the brakes and rubber brake lines. If the rubber brake lines are cracked you won't pass.

Re: the dreaded E word!

My 71 also had a charcoal canister to control evaporative emissions.
