Re: rear speakers

Yes. 4X10. You can get 6X9s to fit if you re-drill the holes in the factory corner brackets for 6X9 and swap the brackets left to right. My friend was a ble to get some Pioneer 6X9s with rather large magnets in his cab corners with that method.

I have some 6X9 corner brackets that I got from a junkyard. they apparently aren't made any more, but you might get lucky and find some like I did.

I've seen 4x10's at Advance auto and Pep boys on the shelf.
You wont be winning any sound competitions but they look like they'll work.

Re: rear speakers

Search eBay and swap meets. I bought a brand new set of Pioneer 4x10's off eBay for less than 30 shipped. Then 2 days later I was at traders villiage and bought a used set (also pioneers)for 5 bux, both pairs work great.

Some trucks came with 4x10 speakers attached to factory brackets in the cab corners. Ive found 2 sets at the junkyard for less than $5 per set.

They fit in the cab corners but perhaps the previous owner removed them or the truck was never equiped. Most had 4x10s some had 6x9s.

Ogre beat me to it and even had pics....

Re: rear speakers

im going to check for the pioneers .. although the ones that Bow Tie Ogre showed me seemed ok too i am not looking to move the truck down the road with massive amounts of bass im just looking to hear a little music over the road noise lol
My son gave me a JVC am/fm/cd that sells for about $100 so its not going to be a real good system in there

Re: rear speakers

i built my own.pretty simple.just build a wedge snug enough to fit. then i used one little l bracket screwed to the side of cab where its double walled.i modified a cheap 6x9 box from a stereo store.threw a little dynamat stuff around the whole show and it rocks.kinda makes a little closed off box for good bass.

Did these 4x10s fit nicely with the stock rear speaker brackets and grills? I checked with Crutchfield and others and the 4x10s they were selling would sit too high on the stock mounting bracket, therefore hitting the speaker grill.

Re: rear speakers

yeah they can be pretty hard to find. I got a set of bigblock73's that are 6x9 brackets but have not got speakers for them yet. I think he sold out of them. right now I have a $10 box i got from petboys behind the seat. Has two round 6 inch speakers in it. My problem is that I cannot hear the radio over the exhaust of my truck. Good luck on your hunt.

Thanks. I'll look for those 6x9 brackets at my local salvage yard. I like the bigger sizing, especially bigger magnets. In the interim, I couldn't wait so I retrofitted my 4x10 brackets to fit 4x6 speakers so I could have that stock look and still have some storage space. I used Sony Xplod series speakers (XS-V4642) and fabbed sheet metal support. I also replaced my front dash speakers with 4-inch Infinity Reference (3912) which I got from Crutchfield. At least these fit nicely under the dash pad. However, I had to use my existing front speaker mounts versus the new mounts provided in the kit. Anyway, here are some pics of my 4x6s for your reference:

Re: rear speakers

This is what my truck came with from the factory. I don't think I've seen them come in this location before. It also had a couple in the dash too.

Thanks for the 4x10 speaker link. I think some of the "cheaper" models may fit as they include their own grills. However, the Kenwoods, Kickers, etc. do not include the grills so although the speaker may fit in the OEM bracket, the OEM grill will not fit. Bummer.

However, I located a local Chevy/GMC truck enthusiast yesterday and he has a set of OEM 6x9 truck speaker brackets available so I'm going to check them out later this week.

Re: rear speakers

GM never offered 6x9's in our trucks...so anything you find will not be OEM, but aftermarket.

I just cut the front off some of the carpeted 6x9 boxes and stuck 'em in the corners with a friction fit.

I am sorry if I miss lead you but these are not OEM. He custom made these from a set he found in the junkyard that someone else had made. They are not where they ever available from the factory. When I said it is hard to find I was talking about 4x10 speakers. Good luck on the hunt
