I've heard thats a common prob with these trucks, but my hinge works well and I don't see how, does the hinge get rusty and stiff? I do know they make fairly cheap strengthener at lmc. I see hoods all the time on craigslist, good luck bob

People just neglect to lube the hinges. Combine that with super strong springs, and the hood gets pretty easy to bend.

One more thing to factor in to that equation. They bend at the that point because GM designed them to bend on impact. If you have a collision the hood is designed to bend rather than be shoved back through the windshield.

I remember the day I bent my stock hood!

Man why didn’t GM offer us an option.
I would’ve picked the supper duty guillotine hood package.

Its very common on A body cars, Chevelle, GTO, Skylark etc. The way you get around it is push in on one side of the hood, then the other, then it will close easily. Hoods for our trucks are relatively inexpensive, a hood for a 70 GTO isnt. I dont let anyone close my hoods because of that designed in weak spot. I keep my hinges lubed, but you can still buckle that sucker easy.

Being too short is a situation I find myself in often with trucks. Particularly 4x4s. A cool tool I have is simple and easy to build. two 5 gallon plastic buckets nailed to a 2x6 or 2x8 about 5 feet long. Makes a perfect bench to sit on, or to stand on and work in a tall vehicle. Keeps me from having to climb in the engine bay and sit on a valve cover.

Buckets are fun.
