Where To Go From Here?

Need some help/ideas/information for my 71. I purchased this truck a year ago and have mostly worked out the kinks in the engine and crucial systems, eg: electrical, brakes, etc.

I want to take her back to the stock paint configuration, although I'm not sure I can establish exactly what that is without the SPID. I can tell she had upper/lower trim and was, at least, medium green with a white top. What I can't tell is if she had the white stripe down the middle. Here are my questions?

1. Does anyone know if they sprayed white into the door jams, or was it external only?
2. Any other way to tell if there was white down the middle? I guess I might see something once I start sanding...
3. Is it wholly impossible to do a frame off restoration within the confines of a two car garage? Can't imagine where I'd put the cab and bed without really annoying my neighbors.
4. If I don't take the thing apart, how difficult is it to just clear the cab and re-spray the inside?
5. I'm considering a 2/4 drop, is it odd to see stock paint on dropped trucks? I personally haven't seen too many around. Seems like it would look ok.
6. Any other suggestions for this old girl?

Thanks!

Here are some pics to give you an idea of what I'm working with.

Re: Where To Go From Here?

Dude- you have a great start there for a nice resto-custom! Regarding the stock paint configuration- I would think that if you had the orginal VIN # you could cross-reference that to a build sheet somehow. That would tell you what paint was originally on the truck.
As far as your working environment is concerned....it is totally possible to do a frame off resto in a two car garage- just don't try to spray the paint there or you'll have the Soccer-Mom Gestapo on you like stink on s*#t ! You may want to consider one of them PODS to keep alot of the parts in so you have some working room. Hell, I did a frame up resto-custom (less paint) on a 61 VW ragtop in a one car garage and a gravel driveway!
Lowering the truck with stock paint should look fine. If your truck really was the medium olive and white then it'll look great, being as that is my all-time favorite color combo!!! Add some 18" Coddington Smoothie II's and you'll have a killer ride.
Post up more pics as you get into this further- I'd like to follow this build.

Looks green unless the cab isn't from that truck. It's not going to be a 100 point resto? If not paint it whatever color you want, it's a truck not a Hemi Cuda, enjoy it.

Re: Where To Go From Here?

If I'm wrong, someone will be along to correct me shortly, but I don't think I've ever seen a white cab, and a white stripe on the same truck. Seems like its one or the other.

Re: Where To Go From Here?

Somewhere floating around the forum is a address or phone # to get a GM restoration packet.IIRC it will document your trucks original build. There are quite a few on here who have gotten one and i guess I should too.Msaybe someone will pony up the info or you could try a search.

Re: Where To Go From Here?

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Just curious, is the color of my cab not called Medium Green? Again, without the SPID, I'm honestly not sure. I looked online and that seemed the closest.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Re: Where To Go From Here?

Unless it is a canadian truck, the VIN won't tell you anything, the restoration packet won't either. It is all very generic info. (still worth getting)
Without the SPID, or the build sheet... you only have the truck to tell you what it was. And since your seat has been redone... odds are the build sheet is long gone too.
All trucks that had the white strip in the middle of the side also had the white roof top.
Looks like a very solid start there.
