Re: custom dashes.....

Here's the dash I put in my 65 from TPI, all electric, nice but I would have been happier with Auto Meter Guages

here's the link for more

TPI http://www.tpigauges.com/

Dakota Digital http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.c...=cat/cat66.htm

No Limit

RBS http://rbsauto.com/dept.asp?d_id=172...&page=3&show=1

There's more if you look. I get most of my ideas from Classic Trucks http://www.classictrucks.com/index.html and other publications for older trucks and the good ole internet.

Re: custom dashes.....

the impala dash is just plain bad ass!!! but it doesent fit the theme i decided to go with on my truck. the pink dash would actually be pretty cool if it was a different color. ill tell ya my idea... i decided to go with a kinda tank theme for my truck. i drew out some rough dash designs, ill scan them tomorrow and post them. thanks for the pics and ideas!!

Re: custom dashes.....

ok i decided what kind of dash im gonna build in my truck. now i know some of you arent gonna like my idea but i like it so im gonna do it. my only problem is am i going to be able to cut the old dash out and build the new one in without removing the windshield? i guess the seal really needs replaced but i dont know how to remove and reinstall my windshield. my windshield is perfect, no cracks or anything. layinrocker, did you cut your dash out or was it already like that? if you did it may i ask why? heres a pic of the dash im gonna build in mine. it is a big truck but i like it. im going to try and make it look as much like that as i can, except mines gonna have a center console added in(connected or integrated into the dash). i am no welder but i think i can manage. my question with that is how do i construct the dash? i was thinking build a frame with some small square tubing or something of the kind, and then weld some sheet metal from there. if i am wrong please correct me. sorry for all the questions, just trying to figure everything out. heres a pic of the dash im going for.
thanks,
John

Re: custom dashes.....

you are right on on how to construct it.
just build a frame out of tubing, then lay the sheet metal over it , just spot weld it every 4-5 inches, and grind the welds smooth.

Use a good sharp razor knife to cut the rubber on the outside of your winshield.
cut the pillars and bottom until you can see the edge of the glass all the way around .
then, I would suggest getting a friend to help, gently push the bottom of the winshield out, and pull it out of the rubber on the top.
don't force it any where , it will crack.
buy a new winshield rubber.
then I suggest having a glass shop install it for you.
If you are not in the middle of nowhere they can probably come to your place and install it there.

Re: custom dashes.....

It would be easier to cut the dash out , and build the new dash with the winshield out.
if you do a decent job of cutting your old one out, you can probably sell it.
I just saw one go on ebay for $70+

Re: custom dashes.....

fastruckin, the only thing I don't like about the TPI guages, is the odometer, it is hard to read without bending down to get straight with the speedometer, other than that, they are fine. The dash insert was very nice.
