tailgate latches

We all love pictures. I'm looking for a way to delete tailgate chains. looking thru the board i've seen plenty of shots of smooth gates, frenched lights, and such. My idea is to modify later model center gate handle with remote rods. Has anyone done or seen this mod. Oh, it's a fleetside. And if you have pic's , , , well you know what we like.

Re: tailgate latches

why not use a setup similar to one they use when they shave door handles. maybe some simple spring loaded pins.

Re: tailgate latches

How's this? The latch is from, if I remember correctly, a toyota forerunner tailgate, as is the rods and finger latches. Mounted inside the tailgate - obviously - to have a clean shaved outer. Plastic coated cables are used instead of the chains. I really like 55dude's idea of using gizmos to unlatch the tailgate and perhaps hydrolics to lower and raise it.This tailgate is heavy.

Re: tailgate latches

Here's a shot of a possible idea for you that my body guy did for my '54:

He used old seat belt latches from GM to do the tail gate and I'll have the 70's style collapsing tailgate arms to hold the gate at a 45 degree angle.
