Re: Looking for someone running an underdash brake booster
Here is some mock up pics of the one I am currently working on. I just couldn't get the linkage to work and still keep the booster, so I ditched it for a stepped bore master cylinder for a 86 two wheel drive with manual disk brakes.
I didn't know someone else had done this before, I would have loved to see some other ideas other than my own. |

Re: Looking for someone running an underdash brake booster
I am pretty sure that krugel has a remote reservoir. Mount it where its easy to get to and fill it up from there. I may be mistaken though.

Re: Looking for someone running an underdash brake booster
Take the dash apart.
the kugel kit is all fine and dandy, but has no provisions for mounting the steering column like the factory bracket does. plus I have a mechanical clutch, so I would have had to convert that over as well. Also, I have about $80 into my set up... not the hundreds you'd have into the kugel kit. Last edited by smashingchuck; 02-19-2008 at 11:04 AM. |

Re: Looking for someone running an underdash brake booster
Just a option. I am sreiously considering building my own kit for under the dash with the booster. Just like the krugel.

Re: Looking for someone running an underdash brake booster
although I am not running a booster, it is physically possible to fit it under the dash - it just requires more engineering in the linkage to make that part of it work.

Re: Looking for someone running an underdash brake booster
I will be runnin a booster. From what I have heard the kugel kit you just mount it up and run your lines to it.
Camaro- Could you get some pic sof the kit before you put it in your truck? If not some with it in your truck? Thanks man

Re: Looking for someone running an underdash brake booster
I was cruisong around the junkyard the other day, and noticed alot of stubby nose vans have this setup. May be an cheap easy way to try it out, I believe it was on 70's ford vans, but I may be wrong

Re: Looking for someone running an underdash brake booster
I can't remember if the booster was on there too, but it had the pushrod from the pedal actuating a 90 deg lever, then pushing the master cylinder. So all the components were located under the hood, above the engine, in a very neat compact way.

Re: Looking for someone running an underdash brake booster
you know, i've been looking at the 2-pedal and 3-pedal kits you can buy that have integrated master cylinders and boosters, etc. for a while now. you just pull the old setup out and bolt the new pedal assembly in. the resevoirs are built into the new pedal assembly. there is some fab work involved, though.
i have been wanting to install one of these repacement assemblies in my truck for eons now, that way you can just shave the firewall and be done with it. as it is, the pedals on our trucks stick out WAY too far! hell, my clutch pedal has about 12" of travel at the rubber end! i don't get the purpose of having that much travel, seems like a waste. Tilton has some nice pedal setups on the market. you can find em at any of the big parts stores like Jegs or Summit. i am 99% sure you can get them with remote boosters and even remote resevoirs.

link, for reference. http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...4294847984+115
integrated resevoir: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku i posted a thread in the 67-72 forum trying to find ANYONE who was using one of these setups in their truck, but apparently nobody was. i'd be curious to see if anyone over here in this section of the forum is using one.
