I tore down the 454 to get it ready for the rebuild. Atleast the top end anyways, assuming rotating assy is ok. Block is virgin 2 bolt. Here's a few pics.

Before pressure washing

After

1976 3/4 ton 454 361959, found the truck in a barn. Drove it into the garage & pulled the motor and TH400.

781 Heads.. going to Louisville on Friday for 7angle and new 2.190s/1.880s and all the trimmings. (Brother is a machinist) - Cuts down on laborcosts

And to top it off Friday, some of my parts started to "flow" in.

Nothing truck wise this weekend, my wife had surgery Friday, removed a small tumor nothing serious though but will take a while to heal.

Finally fixed the glove box latch thanks to a part from beaterC10... spent some time looking for a short to ground on my radio wiring that keeps blowing the fuse...and checked around under the motor for a very small oil leak. I think the filter may be busted.

Non truck related: Joined a soccer team and had my first practice today - spent the early morning hours sucking wind.

Ha!

Started working on repainting a hood I bought a few weeks ago to go on my truck. It's orange now, I plan to change that to black and test out the rolled on Rustoleum $50 paint job thing at the same time.

tried to replace the t-case in the new 85 and realized the input shaft was the wrong size uh. Ended up tearing it down and switched the shaft with the one from the bad case and got it all put back together. Now I can drive it

Drove from Tulsa, OK to Jacksonville, FL in this...

want to give a big thanks to Tracey...it's everything you said it was...performed flawlessly the whole way back...and averaged about 13mpg.

BTW...the big "hit" we took leaving the airport...shook the oil pan loose a tad, had a small leak on the way back, but no biggie. Also, lost both header collector gaskets about 15 miles from the house, looks like the hit was taken by one of the collectors.

Drove straight through and got home about 1:30 Saturday afternoon. Probably could have gotten there sooner, but every gas stop turned into a 20-30 minute conversation and/or hood pop with someone that either has or had a hotrod.

Thanks again man....I'll keep ya updated on the progress.

Re: bein ken didnt get to it What did you get done 2/17/08

I got my 6.5L torn down to the shortblock to check for cracks. Looks crack free, so I have a guy coming to quite possibly pick it up this afternoon.

Today I am gonna get the 6.2L / NV4500 hosed down with the pressurewasher and a tooth brush, want it ready for paint tonight. I plan to take all the aluminum parts somewhere to get them sandblasted, and make a stop at the local bolt supply house to buy some new hardware for the engine's top end where things are visible

If all goes well, I am hoping to have the engine painted and get the turbocharger all bolted back up. Before I can install it I need to get a new flywheel, harmonic balancer, main webbing girdle kit and a 99 6.5L water pump / water crossover to improve it's cooling abilities.

Before I can put the NV4500 in, I need to get a crack in the bellhousing welded up and find myself a crossmember and a set of driveshafts.

Hoping to get everything installed into the truck and running before the end of May

From the 14th to 17th I spent celebrating Valentines and my daughters first birthday.

BTW, Sunday I cleaned up some Serpentine brackets that I got for the Jimmy that I am putting TPI on, and I went and picked up a working 700R4 from a buddy that JUST pulled it out of a running 91 Camaro, it will be replacing the TH350 in the Jimmy.

Dident get jack shiznick done truck or car related. Went to the bike/car show in the springs. Wasent too impressed with what they had up there but we did find Cassie a nice leather jacket for the bike. This week I should have the birdy done the old engine is out and most parts are transferd just need to stick it in. Im just not liking the fact the headers are going to be a biotch to deal with. Oh well go fast parts never make anything easy.

That's funny you mentioned the Roundup. That model "A" pickup belonged to one of the organizers of the Roundup.
He has way too many projects at his shop. (like I don't have enough of my own)
So lets see what I get done before April..........of next year!

When the Roundup gets closer we'll have to swap numbers and try to meet up some place.

Yeah. I am trying to prepare myself. She has only taken a few steps on her own, but she gets everyones fingers and takes off running.... for hours if you let her. I imagine she is preparing herself to go full bore wide open when she does start walking...

Re: bein ken didnt get to it What did you get done 2/17/08

Finally got the '73 off the trailer on Sunday. Did some re-arranging on my bro-in-law Fred's property up in Rowe, NM. Put the truck in it's assigned spot. After we positioned the truck, my girl tore into it. She took off the dash bezel and lens. Fred hooked us up with a nice gauge bezel, so she cleaned that up and there was an extra lens on the floor of the truck which she cleaned as well... as soon as those parts are to her standards, they will go back in...

7T7,

Your truck is looking good. (You need to dedicate a thread to your build.)

Those Phone Booths look nice fixed up.
