serpentine bracket bolt holes
I am installing serpentine brackets from, I believe, an early 90's camaro on a sbc with Protopline heads. In the highlighted area in the image below, you can see the how the top right bolt hole in the bracket misses the bolt hole in the head. Is this a common problem? Did I get the wrong brackets? Should I just drill a new hole and tap it?

They are like stock. They are heads originally out of Australia and NZ and later brought to the States. The driver's side bracket mounts just fine. The passenger side bracket has a different mounting pattern that does not match with the two bolt patterns on the heads.

At least you have a hole on that side most older heads don't have accessory hole on the P/S. Don't worry about it, just put all the other braces on and you will be fine. I've been running my like that for a few years with no problems as have quite a few others on here.

 so let me get this right........ eh hem..... you've got a hole in your head......... and it is useless............. and..... you want to drill another one...........  and hope that one will help?.......  just kidding!!! lol i had that problem on an old camaro i had, didnt have the extra hole and didnt care..... no probs!!!!!!!!!!! hope you dont still want another hole in your head! lol!

looks like you've got a lot of bracket there. Maybe there's a hole in the head that will work if you drill another hole location in the bracket...

Scoti is correct. The heads were not drilled on the older models. I had to drill mine for a old air ac bracketon the 69 i just sold. I just mounted the same setup on a 67 c-10 this weekend. I drilled and tapped the hole 3/8. I drilled it 3/4to 7/8 deep. I wouldn't go much farther than that. Hope this helps.

 ) and the brackets mount great.

Yeah, trucks that originally came with serpentine belts used studs on both brackets (the holes near the waterpump). I used C/K truck brackets while your brackets look like B or F body car brackets….same mounting though.
Below are the torque values for a 1999 L31 5.7L so I would assume these should be pretty close. Bracket Bolt to Engine: 30 ft lbs Bracket Stud to Engine: 15 fl lbs Bracket Stud Nut: 30 ft lbs It sure was scary drilling that hole wasn’t it! I know that I was nervous when I did mine over 10 years ago before the serpentine conversions became so popular.
