If I can get this answered, I can fire up today....
I've got two similiar posts going but not having much luck getting an answer -If I can get squared away, with an hour or two I can fire the truck up. It's nice today and I need to get it out of my drive and back into a building.
I've read all the posts, faqs, searched - can't get an answer to these two questions. When swapping over to gauges, from idiot dash, GMC Pauls site directions say to: Hook power from 12R (full 12v from harness) NEAR the alternator, to terminal #1 on the cluster.... YES/NO? It also says to hook a wire from #12 on the cluster to "brown/blk on the terminal connector near the battery" - ??? Is this not another 12v from near the fusible links going to the cluster now too? What is this referring to? If both of these are as I've written, PLLLEEEASSEEE someone let me know, I need to get this thing running today. Thanks all!

Re: If I can get this answered, I can fire up today....
Wes said he wasn't sure and he has a posting on his site of the conversion but I couldn't find it anywhere on there....
I'm almost to the point I'm going to hook it up and if all my rebuilt harness's and gauges melt, just push it down to the hill to the crushers place and put the money in my pocket (my wife will probably help). I'm just getting frustrated... maybe I need to ask what my backspacing is or for pics of a 2/4 drop...

Re: If I can get this answered, I can fire up today....
i done this swap a while back. i did it using gmcpauls info. i'm not able to look at mine at the moment, but it sounds like your on the right track. i ran one to the alternator and hooked the other one into the fuse block on the fender by the battery. also add a 4 amp fuse to each of these wires so......you won't melt all your gauges.

Re: If I can get this answered, I can fire up today....
THANKS lilred... ok - just need some clarification there - the "fuse block by the battery, on the fender" - that is 12V (+) - where the fusible links connect - correct?
The other wire, you connected to the alternator... 12(+) there too? This doesn't require a positive to negative connection correct - does the meter itself act as a load ("+" to "+")? What am I missing?

Those two conections are so your ampmeter will work. You can fire it up without those connections if you don't want to believe what people are telling you.

Re: If I can get this answered, I can fire up today....
Larry - I realize I could start it up without them but I want to button up the harness's I've built so I don't have 2 extra wires running around by themselves and run them through the bulkhead connectors so I don't have to take them back out.
Second, it has nothing to do with believing what everyone is telling me, all I have is 3/4 answers that I need to have clarified 100%

Luvlegs, I have looked everywhere for the wiring schematic booklet and I cannot find it. I'll keep looking and if I find it I will let you know. Sorry...
