Field Find

I found a 68 shorty all original inline 6 with 3 on the tree sitting in a field just rusting away. I stopped and asked about it and the guy said he had it for sale a couple years back and no one wanted it. I offered him $700. He took on the spot. His grandfathers was the original owner. It still has the faded stickers from the dealership it was sold. mileage 60K. I drove it home and it ran strong with no smoke. I will be doing my first frame off.

Monster Power plant

Even the original cover plates for the optional radio are still there.

Re: Field Find

slap some rims on it, drive it for a year. Then you'll know what you want to do to it, and it'll give you a year of learing the truck, a year of building up the parts stash, and a year of fun in a beater.

Re: Field Find

I can not bring myself to drive a truck that needs work. I found it the end of the summer so I have had it a few months now. I already started working on it. I had to wait till I collected some body working tools including a good mig welder. As longhorn said I am not sure what I want to do with it but I do know I want the body and frame to last another 40 years.
This is a PA truck so I am expecting to replace the bottom 6 inchs all the way around the body.

Re: Field Find

Nice find and I love the 67/68 front end. Now that you've got you an old truck it's gonna be in your blood and you're gonna be itching for more.

WHAT!?! To me that's 53.2% of the fun of having an old truck! If everybody was like that, there would only about three of them on the road!

You know the Schaeffer's Harley in Orwigsburg? Across the street from there is Sckuylkill Automotive. It was sitting in the field right behind that. I didn't even know it was a shop (no sign) until i stopped in to ask about the truck. There is a nice 70 chevelle sitting there but it does not belong to the shop owner yet . The truck was his grandfathers

I really want to get this rust off this thing. I think the truck was keep inside most of its life and the last few year sitting outside have been hard on it. Seems like there is surface rust everywhere.

Re: Field Find

Man, that is a great deal - but drive that sucker, those old sixes are sweet, if you want to work on the body, go for it, but like Longhorn man says, get to know the truck for a while, it's personality.

If that was the case on my truck...I would be going no where! I drive mine everyday. No option truck. The cab is ready to fall off. the front end needs ball joints and everything else. No heat. BB holes in the windshield. The roof leaks when it rains. You have to pump the brakes to get it to stop. The gas pedal is screwed to a license plate under the floor mat...other wise I think my heal would be sitting on the trans. So drive your truck! Mine is an adventure every time I get into it!

yeah no $h!t. why bother having an old ride if you dont get to experience the ageing process a lil bit. ehh. what ever. just dont tear it apart with all these grand hopes of this an that and it never happens. Just make sure your gana finish it.

Re: Field Find

The great thing bout those unmolested finds are you never have to guess what was stock or oem. You just be organized and put it back the way you found it right down to the clamps. This would be my aim on this one. Now watch you go and slam it to the ground and stuff a gen III in it..lol
