jimmy truck?
i was wondering, is it OK to call a shortbed truck a JIMMY? or is that name only proper for a blazer counterpart? Because some people have called my GMC truck a jimmy, and to tell you the truth i would like to call it a jimmy too, sounds cool like "Jimmy take me there"

Re: jimmy truck?
I have heard people use the term "jimmy" to refer to any truck built by GMC. Call it what you will, it is your truck. You should hear what I call mine at times.

Re: jimmy truck?
Well...it`s one of those things where the car company used a name created by customers for one of their products.So,before`70 a Jimmy was any GMC or GM product, just like people call a Chevrolet a Chevy. Now,people my be confused if you call anything but a K/5 a Jimmy even though you`d be right to call a GMC a Jimmy. If anybody gives you grief just ask them if they`ve ever called a Jimmy a Blazer, which is worse.
My friend`s dad was an excavating contractor when we were growing up.I remember him refering to his pans (earthmovers) as Jimmys because they had Detroit Diesels in them and whatever brand they were was a GM company.I think it was before Terex...been many years. I still want to call a GMC a Jimmy, but usually don`t.I think a name should never change.

Re: jimmy truck?
A lot of the older guys I know called my 67 GMC a Jimmy & I was fine with it, kinda liked it myself
And I agree with the above, a Jimmy is pretty much any old GMC |

Re: jimmy truck?
my old GMC was commonly called that, but it was mostly the 45 year old and up guys (this was 8 years ago). It never bothered me, but I got a lotta ppl askin when they'd over hear the convorsation... "I didn't know you had a Jimmy too, i thought you just had that old POS truck".

Re: jimmy truck?
I've always referred to GMC trucks as GMC trucks and the GMC Jimmy's as Jimmy's. If someone told me they found a 72 Jimmy I would think "oh, ok, cool, a GMC "blazer.""

Jimmy is a name concieved by the people, then taken by GMC.Just like Hog is what the people named big Harleys, then Harley took it and went around issuing cease and desist orders to those who used it.I don`t like names to be changed or reassigned. They are for the sake of identification. There`s no shortage, either. So,why make it confusing?

No kidding! You should see my great uncle's '87 Chevy Nova. It's a Toyota-built turdbox with a classic Chevy name!

Re: jimmy truck?
Me too!!!Andy...is that you or is Longhorn Man someone else, now?I`ve heard Broncos called Jeeps,Blazers called Broncos, and Jimmys called Blazers.Remember Chevy pickup trucks? They stopped making those a few years back. Now they`re called Silverados.I guess I`m into 67-72 Silverados and 69-72 Tahoes, now.
I have a friend named Jimmy. He`s a person, not a truck. I had to jimmy my door open. I took the top off my Jimmy yesterday. Those old V6 Jimmys are stump-pullers. I`d like chocolate Jimmys on that, please. Jimmy cracked corn(not a board member)and I don`t care.(thought I`d throw that in) I guess we can confuse names, but usually the context it`s used in will make it clear.

Re: jimmy truck?
Jiminy crickets K, I don't think you can put jimy in another context, ya got it covered. Around here ya gotta be careful which jimy ya call, one mite run ya over(remote start, no NSS) There's one for ya Andy.
Do you have any idea what kinda ft lbs of torque the V6's made? I just put a '67 grille in my jimy so I may not be qualified to post in this thread...J.

Re: jimmy truck?
To add another opinion, we refer to my trucks around here by the previous owners name...we have Brent, Dale, Barry, Spensley, and Cheryl...my 01 2500HD is the new truck, because I got it new. Bottom line is its yours call it what you want.
