6 lug disc brakes

What is the best way to put front disc brakes on my 68? Ride height will not change. I want to keep it 6 lug. Some one suggested changing to a 73/87 front cross member to reduce rebuild cost. Will the after market rotors fit? Sounds like a lot of work. Thanks.

Re: 6 lug disc brakes

Welcome to the board, from Central Arkansas.

I have 6-lug discs on my truck, using Early Classic Enterprises components. There are no stock 6-lug disc rotors that are factory for 2 wheel drive. What ECE manufactures and sells uses stock Delco/GM parts off the shelf, like calipers, etc. If you go with a 5-lug setup (later, for instance) the stock (71-up) rotors will go onto the spindles.

If you want to keep 6-lug, and you want to convert to disc brakes, you will have to make a decision as to whose system you want to use. If you elect to utilize a 73-87 crossmember to get a disc brake setup, you'll still have to find a supplier to get the rotors for 6-lugs. There are other suppliers than ECE, some of them are "on the board". Look for the red screen names, to locate the vendors.

Re: 6 lug disc brakes

There are about 1/2 dozen manufacturers for a spindle conversion for your truck that dont lower it any,and will just convert your 6 lug drum set up to a 6lug disc set up like ChevLoRay stated.

check the board vendors like GMC Paul and others to see what they have.
